Disabling automatic headlights

Has anyone done this? I'd like to be able to choose when I turn the headlights on.

That'd be your best bet. I know who he's talking about but don't remember his user name either.

Sounds like something the dealer would void the warranty for, just like a tune. I find the headlight sensor is pretty sensitive and early in the evening the lights will keep clicking on and off.

In Ontario the law requires DRL's to be on automatically. Also, the law prevents us from disabling Auto DRL's.

That said, I think the DRL's/fog lights are pretty cool looking. In fact many, including myself, have installed AAC's P13W Plasma lights in our DRL's/Fog lights.

I've heard of removing the spring from the switch so you can leave it in the off position.

I agree that the DRL (fog lamps on the RS which I have) are cool looking and it is also illegal to shut them off. What I'm looking to do is be able to have the choice when the headlights come on.

I see what you're saying about the spring to hold the knob in the off position but I've tried to hold it in the off position and they stay on.

Take the headlight switch apart and cut the spring. Very easy to do, and the switch will stay in the "off" position all the time instead of returing to "auto". Kills the DRLs and the auto feature at the same time, costs nothing, and takes ten minutes.

You can run a relay in the line so you can turn your headlights on when you need.

I've read that the cutting the spring doesn't work in Canada. When the automatic headlights come on and if I were to hold the switch in the off position nothing happens. So I don't see cutting the spring working for me. I wish it did.

Get a relay cut the wire for the head light, Put the wires on the relay then get a switch, mount it where you like, now run power to the switch then to the relay. and from there to ground.

I was really hoping to not have to go that route. I would have thought I could unplug a sensor, fuse etc.. Would the dealer have the ability to do something like that? Whether they will or not is a different story. It's not like you're messing with anything like DRL's, it's simply a feature I don't like.
