SS springs on a V6

I am posting this here to for hopes of some quick replies:

Morning All,

I have an opportunity to get a set of stock SS springs that I'd like to install on my V6 and have a couple of questions, # 1 being my priority.

1- Will this drop my car at all, not looking for a major drop, just a bit.
2- Will I feel any handling or comfort changes?
3- Any reason not to do this?
4- Any other benifit to doing this

I've looked into this as I considered going this route.

Car will drop some, but not as much as say, going with some aftermarket solution. Just look at an SS sometime..it should be the same as that.

Handling should improve...with the ride being a tad more harsh.

Can't think of any negative reasons to do it.

If you do this, let me know your impressions. Take before and after ride height measured on a flat surface from the ground to bottom/center of wheel well.

I did this, so I'll chime in..

1. Your car will have the exact stance of a SS. So for a V6 its about .5 inch drop.

2. The handling is vastly superior over the V6. The ride gets a little stiffer about still much more comfortable compared to aftermarket drop springs.

3. No. Well it costs money. But I got all 4 springs and shocks for $75 off a brand new SS. Shop around. Remember you need an alignment too. That was 130 bucks for me but it came with a lifetime alignment.

4. Maybe a .25 mpg increase? Because the car has better aero due to being lower.

The only thing I recommend is get the SS shocks with your springs. The SS shocks have a different rate and they work in conjunction with the SS springs. The v6 shocks might be a little too soft.

Thanks guys! I'm going to pass on going with just springs and look for shocks/struts and springs.

You will have to buy SS struts and shocks also. You should not use the SS springs with the V6 shocks and struts. They are cheap on ebay.

I too have debated swapping out to basically the SS suspension setup. If not that then going with Pedders.

From what I understand SS springs fit the V6 shocks/struts.

Dont buy from vendors even.. Find a member on here or ebay. It shouldn't cost more then 100 dollars for all 4 springs and shocks/struts. I got mine for $75.

But aren't both the v6 engine and transmission lighter? Wouldn't it sit a little higher?

And why doesn't Chevy offer a version of the fe4 suspension on the V6.

I think the RS should of came with a FE3 or FE4 suspension. But I guess the RS is a appearance package only.

Mine sits the same as a SS

The springs are physically shorter...so it isn't the extra weight that makes the SS squat more...although theoretically there could be a very small, but un-noticeable different in high between the V8 on SS springs and the V6 on SS springs, but the difference is only about 100 - 150 lbs. Can't really make much of a difference in height because of that.

As far as offering a sportier package for the V6...I've been down this road here before and even did a poll about it. Ford offers a package for the V6 with better handling and more aggressive gearing. Wish Chevy would do that as well.

I did the Full FE3 suspension swap, and it was a pretty noticeable difference. The sways are noticeably larger, and my car sits almost 3/4" lower (see Sig). It's a good idea if you can find the parts cheap. I think soon i'll be getting some Pfadt springs to go along with it, so i think it'll be just right.
