2014 SS VS Train

Just after midnight Wednesday a new Camaro driven by Daryl McCowan of Conroe was southbound on FM 1485 near the Lake Wildwood subdivision. At the same time a freight train was heading eastbound at the crossing around the curve in the road. The driver failed to negotiate the curve, leaving the roadway and slamming into the side of the train at a forty-five degree angle almost 100 feet from the crossing. At the crossing the arms were down and signals were in operation.

Shortly after the crash 911 operators received a cal from Onstar reporting the crash due to airbag activation.

Cut and Shoot Fire Department and Caney Creek Fire Department worked to cut the windshield out of the vehicle to free the entrapped driver. When they were finally able to remove the glass the driver crawled out without any assistance. He was treated by Montgomery County Hospital District for a cut to the hand.

DPS after doing a field sobriety test transported the driver to the Montgomery County Jail, charged with DWI.

The train, which was struck about mid-point continued eastbound, the conductor not knowing he was struck

Would it have been wrong to tip it back over and open the door?

Typically fire crews do not want to disturb the "resting position" of a wreck while the person is still trapped inside unless they absolutely positively must do so.

What a jackass! He could have easily lost his life with just a few degrees more into the train

Camaro hit train - The driver walks away

from the article:
According to the news report, Darrell McCown of Conroe, Texas (the seat of Montgomery County, about 40 miles north of Houston) was southbound on FM 1485 when he lost control on a curve near the tracks and managed to cover almost 100 feet before striking the eastbound train.

Another one bites the dust. Poor car. Glad the guy was ok, but I do wonder how he managed to do this.

Drinking enough alcohol to become intoxicated and then attempting to drive a vehicle while impaired, that's how. Frightens me knowing what types we have to share the roads with.

Man, if I got drunk and tore up my car, I'd never forgive myself. If I hurt somebody, I'd probably be suicidal. I just don't understand how people can drink and drive. I watched my dad destroy about 10 cars while I was growing up and I never forgot it. All ya gotta do is call a cab.
