Not sure if this falls under "the nature of the beast". But it seems like at the back end (shown in pics) the ragtop looks like it's caved in...

Unfortunately you are experiencing the "fifth bow" issue that plagued many of the 2010-2012 converts. Do a google search or even search this group and you will see a lot of information on this. It is repairable...

Thank you so much for the links. I have factory warranty left as well as the extended warranty that I purchased when I bought car last week. Anyway this could be covered under warranty or service bullitin

Update: called the dealership and informed them of my extended warranty. They gave me a list of the parts Involved in the repair and told me to call my warranty company to see if they will cover it.

Does anyone know what causes this issue? any way to prevent it or is just bad from the get go and is going to happen no matter what.

Poor design by GM... from late 2013, they did a redesign that had fixed the issue.. I'm not 100% certain what exactly the issue was that caused this to happen or if every car is effected. If you have to get a new top at some point, might want to look at what the fix was so that your new top will not inherent this issue.

Late 2013? My 2013 was made in August of 2012 according to the build sheet and from what I read it hasn't been an issue on 2013's.
