Congratulations, Ford....you've finally entered the 21st century. In engines, at least.
The only thing GM could really do this quickly, would be a better engine tune from the factory. It would take too much time for a diet.

@Zeus

The SVT Performance equipped 2011 V6 should underweigh the 2010 GT by ~200lbs. That should offset the 20hp and 40 lb/ft difference between the two, if only a little at least. I'm expecting the car to get mid 5's from this information.

Interesting. So the V6 rumors (lol) hold true after all. So I guess we can expect a 400~425 GT after all.

Interesting the way the new engine is map out. Almost reminds me of a 302 intake from the 90's...

Seems Ford has heard the bell ringing. They have a fire a direct salvo at GM's Camaro. Now We can have discussion in earnest about the V6 models, and hopefully soon the v8's.

Dodge ? Your up.

Hate the rear end.

Dodge is offering the 6.4L Hemi that should produce around 475 HP in the SRT-8. Obvioulsy that isn't enough to keep up with a GT500, which is it's competition, but should make it the quicker vehicle than the current SS.

Still, I firmly believe that GM has something up their sleeve for the 2011 MY, aside from the convertible option.

You mean Beretta... the Corsica was a four door.

I gotta say I'm happy to see Ford stepping up to answer the Camaro challenge. Now if Dodge would step up and do the same with the Challenger then everybody would win here. Competition keeps everybody on their toes and thinking outside of the box.

Weight is the factor here. And with a track pack, and the LCA's from a GT500 (basically the Ford Racing LCA's) the performance equip V6 will come off the line hard..and being lighter with same power, it will truly take a v6 Camaro.

Hell get a really good driver, and it may even take a unmodified GT......

It's possible, but I guess it depends on how much the car really weighs. The 2010 GT only weighs 3600+-lbs I believe.... So thats not a huge weight adv.

I thought it was only getting certain GT parts, nothing from the GT500.

Sorry, I meant Friday. That's when the LA auto show begins, which is where they've confirmed the 2011 GT will be making its debut.

However, things like this are almost always leaked prior to the event, so we could be getting our hands on all the info at any time.

The article mentioned that the weight for a SVT equipped V6 will be "below 3500 lbs". I'm assuming 3400 lbs, take that from a camaro V6's ~3800 lbs, and that will be around a 400 lbs difference. Which should put the 2011 V6 at around a high to mid 13's 1/4 mile time. The GT clocks in at low 13's, so it should be very close. Honestly if I was a 2010 Mustang owner, I'd be super pissed.
