I've owned one 4cyl, and I'll never own another. Especially in a heavy 4-door. A smaller 2-door sporty car? Maybe.

I think someone was wanting it to be a Mercedes CLS when they designed this...

Interesting............apparently the EPA number is determined on a dyno. To do it properly, you need to have certain numbers for coast down, aero, etc. These numbers are supplied by the manufacturers. Even more interesting is that NON AMERICAN OEMs can provide whateverrrrrrrr numbers they want for that dyno with very little fear of being audited because the EPA doesn't have enough budget to go and audit them...................but they do have budget to audit here.

Just sayin'..........................

Doesn't suprise me....pisses me off....but doesn't surprise me. It seems like we attempt to shoot ourselves at every turn here...

I agree... I HATE Hyundai with their stolen designs and bullshit marketing claiming to be American.. but 35 MPG is damn nice with a 198HP 2.4L.

The Malibu could achieve this as well. The current 2.4L in the Equinox for instance, in the lighter Malibu, could easily achieve the additional 16 HP and better fuel economy. Currently pushing 33MPG, the DI version of the 2.4L would probably get 36MPG in the Malibu if the Equinox is capable of 32.

Hopefully GM uses lighter Steel in their upcoming vehicles to trim the weight, but not at the cost of the structural integrity they have been achieving over the past few years. A 2 year old Hyundai Sonata owned by my one of my employees has only 23K miles on it and rattles like screws in a can when a bump is hit. My G6 with 100K miles still has its original muted "Thuuump" sound when a bump is hit. If that is indicative of the upcoming 2011 Sonata's weight advantage.... then I'm cool with GM sticking to a lil heft.

I'd like to see GM make more use of the Opel-derived 265hp 2.0L Turbo...think 2015 Camaro, Buick (? Verrano, ? Riviera, ? Avant) coupe, Cruz RS, Malibu RS, Canyon/Colorado replacement.

Yeah, what is going on with Honda? The CR-Z is only estimated for 37 MPG Highway...and that's for a $25K hybrid 2-seater???

I've owned 3 Hyundais (bought new):

2000 Tiburon
2001 XG300L
2005 XG350L (wife's current car)

All were great cars, with far less problems than my current GM car..

But GM gave me 361hp/ 385 ft/lbs torque RWD. So it's a trade off I suppose.

Well, the Sonata just got IIHS's Top safety pick designation for 2010 yesterday. Definitely not a "tin can".
