New Owner - Recommended beginner mods list?

So my ZL1 will be here in the next 24 hours or so, its coming up by truck from Florida (I bought this from another member here). I am new to the Camaro and ZL1 package. The car has about 5k miles on it and was very well taken care of. It already has a RotoFab intake on it. I plan on changing all the fluids when I get it as part of my maintenance program to ensure that everything is top notch and I know for sure which fluids are in it.

Besides maintenance items and the Rotofab, what other mods do you guys see as recommended for these cars? I see a lot of posts about stone guards to help protect the paint. I didn't see anything available from GM for these. Where can I find more info about these? I did some searching and found people talking about them but I didn't know where to actually get them from.

I am definitely looking to take very good care of the car and enjoy the most performance I can get out of it as well.

As far as performance, you can do a VMAX ported TB. and a 5% over-driven lower damper before having to tune. I would also suggest picking up an Elite engineering PCV oil catch can to keep your engine clean and running efficient for years to come.

To compliment the Roto-Fab you can do Roto-Fab's Washer reservoir relocation kit and Big gulp to supply a little more air to the intake system.

Suspension/bushings are always nice upgrades, depending on what you're doing with the car.

Feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions and I'll be happy to assist!

Best regards,

Tyler

Thanks Tyler. Great ideas! Are the TB and 5% over-driven lower damper pretty much just install and drive? What kind of performance gains would you expect from those mods?

I did forget to mention the car does have a catch can already installed on it too.

Car will be used as a weekend toy. Its not practical for me to drive for work (plus my clients would probably think I am making too much $$$).

The first question is do you want to keep the powertrain warranty? Or kick it to the curb and make 650+rwhp? Stone guards they are probably talking about clear bra. 3M makes it and so do some others probably. It's something that is professionally installed. Basically a sticker that's clear and will take rock and debris hits without messing up the paint underneath. I would do a good detail and buff/polish before getting it installed. Lowering springs from Apex, BMR, Eibach, or Hotchkiss. Don't do more than 1.5" with the mag ride. I plan on either 1" BMR or 1.25" Apex springs. Another thing I'm doing is an additional blower coolant reservoir. Rotofab makes it and it adds four liters of capacity. Added coolant capacity means your intake air temps won't get as hot as fast. I just purchased JBA catless mids also and they will be installed tomorrow. I'll live with the check engine light. My only mods will be the Rotofab and catless mids. I'm putting it on the dyno Thursday to see what it does with those mods. I pulled the flappy exhaust fuse so the flaps are open all the time. Sounds way better and doesn't drone. If it drones with no cats I'll get the mild to wild kit that allows me to open and close the flaps at will.

How bad of an install are those JBA catless mids going to be? Are these headers too or just a cat delete kit?

Yep, the 5% pulley and TB can be installed with no tuning required. Coupled with your Roto-Fab you already have you'll pick up an additional 30-40 RWHP.

Took us about an hour on the lift and we also did an oil change. It sounds mean as hell now! I had previously pulled the exhaust fuse. It drones a bit at 75-80 now, so I'm going to get the mild to wild switch.

Sorry to somewhat hijack the thread, but do you need to have a fuel additive on a stock tuned motor with the VMAX, Roto-Fab and the 5% pully?
