Wickerbill install - seeking some info
Evening everyone, I'm installing an OE wicker bill on my Z/28 spoiler and it looks like one of the information sheets might have been missing from the box.
I'm looking for a couple pieces of info; 1. The drill bit size of the rivnut. It measures 13.6mm which is pretty darn close to a 9/16 bit, but I'd like to know for certain. 2. What are the 21 rubber washers to be used for? Vibration damping and anti-marring I presume, but I'm only guessing they are placed between the spoiler and around each hole on the wicker bill and on the washer of the screw to keep from marring the wicker bill. Is that correct? Thanks everyone! |

The foam washers are to protect the spoiler and the wickerbill. One on the wickerbill to protect the spoiler and one on the bolt washer to protect the wickerbill. If I remember correctly, there are also 4 harder rubber washers with peel and stick adhesive that go on the rubber trunk bumpers to stiffen.
Drill bit size for rivet nuts is 35/64". Chevy cautions DO NOT USE any drill bit larger than 35/64 as the rivet nut could pull out. Torque spec on the M8 bolts 8 N.m =/- 2 N.m. Start with the center bolt and alternate outward.

I had 1 go in that didn't seem to tighten right and was a little looser than I like but after looking trying to find the GM part number for a replacement riv-nut (never found part number) it did torque to spec and is still there.

I have a Marson tool - but of course it's standard and not metric. Gave up on buying a M8 mandrel for it and ordered a tool through Amazon.
Marson instructions called for a 17/32 drill for their M8 rivnut. I'd guess GM's would be similar. Signed up for Buttonwillow in 3 weeks with NASA and then doing the Nevada Open Road Challenge in May and wanted to get a feel any changes in handling. The spoiler was nothing to drill through and seems very easy to 'eff up the rivnut installation. 8 nm torque spec is near 5.5 ft. lbs. / 66 in. lbs.? Not much for sure. Thank you everyone. |
