I'd have to say something is wrong with your syncros then

My first to second shift is usually pretty loud at slow speeds, but I've never had any issues banging on it

Is the "grind" noise the kind of metallic sound like the metal teeth not meshing correctly? I don't get that noise but I do have the "crunchy" feel of the shifter when going into second, and occasionally third. But not that horrific metal sound.

That crunchy feeling is what people call notchines

Exactly. So that's not the serious "grind" problem. I just looked up some videos about the Camaro grind. Luckily, I'm not getting that loud, sickening sound of things not meshing correctly.

Just wondering, if u put in 3.91 gears does that get rid of the problem?

Mine in definitely a grind going into 2nd with any sort of quickness or at a higher RPM. I can shift without it doing it but have to go slow and ease it in there. ; )

Basically how it was described to me is that the 6060's ratio from 1st to 2nd gear is a big gap and it takes a lot of bite by the synchronizer to get 2nd gear up to speed quickly to mesh in well. Hence the hybrid carbon syncho. The T-56 Magnum has these build in to alleviate this problem from the start. Supposedly the new manual in the 6th gen's is supposed to be even better. We shall see

I've had a '10 and '12. '12 def a bit better.

I found that Royal Purple Synchromax to also help a bit. And with the '12 the only real time noticed was the first couple shifts cold. Just had to do those shifts kinda slow and rev match a bit... and it wasn't too bad.

Same here. My 2010 has always been notchy going into second, but never had the grinding. I have the MGW sort-throw shifter and it seemed to be less notchy after I put that in. When I downshift from third to second it's smooth as butter, not even the normal notichiness. And I've downshifted into second at almost 40 mph and it was still smooth. Go figure.

1-2 is slow. I usually can't even get a chirp out of the shift because it's too hard to speed shift. 2-3 is nice by comparison, and 3-4 is the best shift in the trans.

Now, I DID do the clutch fluid swap as outlined here:

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/Clutch_Care.html

The quality of the shifts did improve a bit. The stock fluid was black as Satan's heart. The next step is to swap the trans fluid to Redline D4. I hear that works wonders on the TR606 and the stock GM fluid is garbage for smoothness.

Mine is a little notchy going into 2nd when cold but smooths out pretty quick. All in all it is awesome compared to my 2012 5.0 with the MT-82 trans. That thing was a grinding, whining, tapping, gear blockout over 6k rpm, hunk of sh*t.
I have dedicated all my free time to warning un-suspecting consumers about the Mustang trans...just like I warned the dealer I would do when they wouldnt fix it.. lol
Seriously though my 2011 M6 shifts like a dream

The AY6 in my 2011 V6 frustrated me so much that I impulse bought a 2013 GT. I heard horror stories about the MT-82 (which is also chinese) but mine was trouble-free while I owned it. I miss manual. :(

Mine has a dealer installed short shifter. It shifts fine.
