Ticking as in lifter tick? or like piston slap?
"ticking" is a very broad description. Does ticking speed up as you rev or only when Idle?

fuel injectors tick a little at idle...no worries unless it sounds deeper in the engine

Do you hear it from inside the car with windows up or just with the hood up?

Sometimes a better oil helps a bit. Try something like an Amsoil 10w30, and leave it 1/2 qt low.

I know 5w30 Mobil 1 can sometimes be noisy in these LS engines.

Mostly I think it is variation in lifter to lifter bore fit. And some oil pressure variation. Oil pump variation...

If you were hand building an engine, ideally you'd want to perfect that lifter to lifter bore fit with precision machining and lifter select matching to the bore. In mass production though, there is variation and slop. Get one that fits a bit loose, and that lifter can be a bit noisy as it bleeds off oil pressure.

Harleys can have the exact same issue... some have noisy lifters some don't. Build an HD motor up with perfect lifter/bore fit, a better oil pump, and leave the sump a hair low... and it will be a pretty quiet valvetrain. But if you ride 10 mass produced ones, all 10 will probably sound a bit different.

That's what I figured so I wasn't to worried about it. It disappears as some as you touch the throttle and can only hear mine with the hood open

Have you been to a dealership for a proper diagnosis of this issue? Please let us know if you are contemplating taking this route!

It's likely fuel injectors. Not just my opinion but the word of a machanic at the dealership. I heard this on my last two corvette's and even the viper I owned.

my .02 is fuel injectors or coupler. every car will tick with the hood up. you just have to diagnose wheather it is normal or an issue.

Buy a stethoscope it will amplify any issue if there is an issue.
