How to ship a diff?
Trying to sell my 3.91/1le diff. Need advice on a few things, thanks in advance for the advice.
1. What is the best shipper? 3. What the heck do you ship these things in? 3. Where do you get the yellow plugs to plug up the half shaft holes? |

Drain the diff completely...wrap in 1 or 2 trash bags then in heavy wrapping paper to fit inside a box barely larger than diff....tape well.
take 2nd box with inside dimensions a couple of inches larger than first box...layer peanuts on bottom, put in first box and finish with peanuts all around...tape well. I use UPS for heavy stuff...get extra insur to cover your butt....good luck! l8tr PEACE

Get a plastic tote from walmart. Cheap and easy. It cost me about $80 to ship one through Fedex.

Get a cheap ( non brand) Igloo Cooler that you can fit the Diff in. Put it in, Tape it Up and take it to Greyhound or Fastenal to ship

Home Depot HDX tote, forget exact size - so measure your diff and put plenty of solid packing to hold it in place. I've had pretty good success with Fastenal Logistics also.

Another vote for the heavy duty totes. That's how I got my 3.45 SS diff.

I would vote for a tote as well. When I got mine, it was in a couple layers of cardboard box. However, some fluid was left and leaked out/soaked into the cardboard, and by the time it got to me, it had basically all fallen apart and the diff was all but exposed at that point.
With a tote, that wouldn't be an issue

I used UPS. Just drained it, wrapped it, padded and boxed it, and off it went.
Just make sure nothing can leak out. If they see leaks, they will usually dispose of the item. Though, I got one shipped to me that wasn't drained, and UPS put it upside down, and it leaked out. They delivered it to me anyway... |
