Blown Rod in ZL1

This past weekend my stock 2012 ZL1 blew a rod which pierced the bottom of the engine block while I was driving it on the highway. It only had 49.3K miles on it but is older than five years so no warranty. Have any of you had anything like this happen? I have a few quotes to replace the long block, one from a dealer and one from a reputable independent shop which is a few thousand cheaper, but am not sure which is the best way to go and am looking for ideas/suggestions.

I would go with the reputable shop or just purchase a new crate engine from GM for around $9000.00. Every dealer do not have great or even good mechanic's just because they are Chevy dealer's.

Bummer, I feel your pain, the LSA engines have generally been very robust.

No, there was one owner before I bought it in January of 2013 with 3K miles on it.

how do you blow an engine, were you 8k RPM or something always?

Our cars are pretty solid if it was just DD no mods on a highway... i mean i have mods i have fun with it on highways here and there and drive normal almost everywhere, never had no issues, normal changes etc.

I think you're not telling us something.
