Anyone use the GM Tech 2 Scan tool on 5th gen Camaro?

Been toying the idea of getting a nicer scan tool as mine is pretty basic.

My car is a 2013 SS and it looks like the Tech 2 is good up to 2014.

Comes with the CanDi module, so should work with the Can network.

Seems to be a very nice Scan tool if only using it on GM product.

Anyone have an experience to share?

I've always been interested in purchasing one as well. There doesn't seem to be a lot of support for them though. Nobody seems to know the answers of what it can and can't do for specifics anyways. Basic reading, yeah of course. For awhile I wanted to know what can and can't be programmed. Since it's able to get into the BCM and such. On my 1LE I swapped the instrument cluster to the ZL1, and that is VIN specific, so I wanted to know if this would reprogram one, nobody knew. And my dad has a GMC with all the RPO codes for remote start, but no remote start. I can buy a code from GM to enable it, the BCM needs to be coded with that code. Nobody knows if the Tech 2 can do it. Not a lot of answers out there. On top of that, I believe the online articles they use, you have to subscribe to. I believe they offer like 3 day subscriptions, but still.
I'd say if you're just going to do basic code reading, get a popular scan tool. A lot of them now do a lot more stuff than they used to. Like command the ABS pump on to do brake bleeding, reset lights, TPMS relearn, battery relearn on other vehicles, etc.
Plus, if you're looking at a real tech 2, those are quite spendy that can get you a nice scan tool. But if you end up getting one anyways, let me know what it can and can't do! Lol

Its funny bc our mechanic is really old school and doesnt really know how to use it. Ive had it in the backseat of my Magnum ( the daily ) for over 4 weeks at this point. Ive definitely used it way more than he has. I believe he only bought it bc a few of our new runaround cars are Honda HRVs with the electric ebrake that needs to be disengaged when doing the brakes.

Does not work.

Either way, the question is wether anyone here has used it on a gen 5 camaro. If so, how did it work out? Any issues?

I would get the clone personally. Readily available new, price is right, all the same functions.

Anyhow, as to programming vin specific components, my basic understanding is that yes, the tech 2 can do it along with the TIS2000 and a pc. The TIS2000 comes with the tech 2.

You put the TIS2000 onto a PC via the CD, subscribe to GM's product, then use the tech 2 as a passthrough to connect the PC to the data link connector and then program the vin specific component.

Where would you get a clone? Also, I saw someone local to me (on Facebook Marketplace), selling a GM Tech 2 scan tool, and I wasn't sure if it was legit, as I'm not familiar with older, factory-based software.

Is TIS2000 software something you can just readily download from the internet, and hook it up to the scan tool and PC, just like a tuning platform/tuner tool?

For tuning platforms, you have to register with an e-mail and pay for certain credits/licenses, etc. I'm assuming you might have to do something similiar with TIS2000? How popular is it, and do GM/Chevy dealerships still use it in the US often?

Also, I have this ABS malfunction issue, which occurs on my manual 2010 2SS. It occurs intermittently when reversing, where the ABS system suddenly "checks"/engages itself. You can hear the sounds, and feel the grinding sensation for a split second through the brake pedal, but that's about it. I wonder if the lowkey TBS for that issue, could have that one update file, be flashed through the ECM with this tool... Once again, I'm not familiar at all, so I'm not sure if this tool is for any kind of calibration flashes or overwriting of the ECM.

The tech 2 clones are very buggy-check reviews on Amazon, your much better off with a used original. You can also go with a VCXNano but they are very hard to set up. I never could get mine working right and ended up getting a tablet that was already set up.

Be aware you will have to buy a subscription from GM to program modules and most of the modern scan tools do just a well for troubleshooting. There is also a huge learning curve. I only used mine for reprogramming modules and my scan tool for everything else.

As a side note for Ford products you can download Forscan and buy the recommended adapter for about $50.00, it allows you to program modules and turn on and off features with nothing else. I had to replace and calibrate the front radar module on my wife's Mustang and saved $1,200+ over what the dealer wanted.
