Seems like this thread died some time ago. I'm here because I noticed that I had not heard anything about Dyno Steve for quite a while. I was just curious.
I had a remote tune from him about 2017 and lost a torque converter pretty quickly. It could've been a coincidence, weak link, etc. But there just seems to be too many negative things associated with the man. At least that's my observation. Edit: in all fairness, I did ask him for a more aggressive tune than what my nearly all stock build called for. He obliged me. Pay to play I guess.

I think it's unlikely that the tuning took out the torque converter. I assume that your lockup clutch went away over time - was this a single or triple disk? Singles can absolutely be locked up under wide open throttle - which is what I would do with an aggressive tune-up. BUT - they probably will only do it for a while before the frictions get too hot and start to deteriorate. This got to the point where Circle D stopped even selling the single disk converters for 6L80s - they are just too prone to that kind of abuse and failure, and then everybody looks at the converter manufacturer who is just like "I TOLD you this would happen..." Used to see DynoSteve's name all over the place on these forums. He had a pretty loyal following, and then a whole mess of other people pretty upset with some of the results. I think there are probably a lot of reasons for both the loyalists and dissenters. I think sometimes he got in over his head on the remote tune stuff. All water under the bridge at this point.

You're not racing it, so how often do you run it wide open past 90mph where it would likely lock under wide open throttle? I'm guessing it's not common. It's also not any sort of guaranteed failure at all - but a single disk doing wide open throttle lock-ups does tend to eventually wear out under that kind of use. I've seen them take it for quite a while, and some have wore out quickly. The rest of the lockup schedule could have some implications as well. If the calibration has the converter doing a lot of lock and unlock during routine driving that's additional wear as well.
