Skinnies on the street.

I have just received my weld S71 rears with 305/45/17 MT Street S/S to put on my car. Currently torn between ordering an 18x8 front and running street tires or putting the 18x6 weld front runners on it and running the MT Sportsman S/R tire? I drive the car on the street and don’t really want to switch wheels all the time for the track. I only get it out on pretty days and usually only drive 20-30 miles at a time. Was curious if the skinnies on the front would be an issue for the little street driving I do?
TIA

I drive a little over 30 minutes to the track on 17" Weld skinnies and have a different set of wheels for the street. I wouldn't want to drive on skinnies just for cruising around that's for sure. On the flip side I wouldn't want to run my 20's at the track. So I swap.

That’s my biggest debate. I still have the stock 20’s with basically brand new tires in the front so I definitely will be swapping to them when I go visit my dad (200 mile trip one way). I was originally gonna put the 18x8 S71’s on it to match the rears and run 245 street tires so I would never have to switch but I like the look of the front runners a lot better and I know the weight difference is there. I live in town so I can literally make it to the car meet/show, cruise in and go grab a bite to eat and make it home in under 10 miles of driving and that’s most of my driving with the car.

I drive with M&H Racemasters bias ply on Weld 17" front all the time. No issues and I don't have a front sway bar either.

I drive around on 4.5" M&H Racemaster skinnies, have bias plys on all 4 corners, car handles like a lumber wagon compared to how it did stock.. Its not that bad though (also don't have a front sway bar)

I drove from Tuscaloosa to Detroit on my M&H bias front runners and back. Nothing to it.

I daily drive on skinnies from May 1 to Nov 1.

You need 2 more car lengths for panic braking, so don't tail gate.

I myself never seen much gain in using anything under 6in wide,..the amount of maneuverability and stopping capabilities simply isn't worth the very negligible 60ft improvement imo

Same here and it sucked in my city streets. I ended up putting my regular street wheels back on the front

I'll take every bit of rotational weight loss I can get, especially in the front..

Oh hey Jeff I must have missed your post. I haven't done anything over winter or spring actually. I have a set of BMR motor mounts with solid aluminum pucks that have been sitting on my bench waiting till I get the poly tranny mount so I can do them at the same time. Have been pinching pennies but will likely do the NW 102mm TB next, then start on the fuel system and replace springs. Have 15k miles on the BTR .660s but will be going with PAC next time

What I am wanting to do for fuel is

E85
ID 1700s
Fuel cell (to get things ready for the solid axle and TH400 thats eventually going in)

What a long, slow process! My pockets aren't as deep as some on here lol

Man, isn't that the truth! The tunnel to my end goals is a looooong one.

I ordered some race stars back in July...and I am just now getting the tires delivered today. Was trying to find a setup that will work for street and strip use for now, without changing over.

I have 18x10.5 rear and 18x5 front wheels. Going to be running a 555r in 305/40/18, and 28x6 Sportsman SR on the front. I have a buddy running the sportsmans on the front of his 4th gen and he drives on the streets no issues with them, so I think it will be fine. Hope to have them mounted and rolling around next week. Maybe I can get it out of the hole a bit better now

I'm hoping you get your current set up into the 10's this season if the tracks ever open.

Curious you going with ID 1700s for your future FI plans?

My problem seems to be when I've got $$$ there is no time, and when there's time no extra money. Funny how that can work.
