V6 to Brembo conversion

I was thinking of doing the conversion but i had a few questions.
Is it worth it?
Can I do it myself (Im pretty good with cars)?
What is a good place to get them power coated?
What will I need other than the calipers, pads, rotors and pins/clips?
and how could i make this cost less than $1080 if thats possible

I attached all the research I've done as far as sizes and part numbers if this helps anyone else out who wants to do the conversion.

Thanks in advance

There are many threads regarding this conversion.

I did the Brembo conversion for $400 plus stainless steel lines. Pretty easy. There is a DIY thread in the DIY sub forum.

Powder coating, any powder coating shop can do it.

How did it only cost 400$?

If you buy used brake parts you could do it for half , if I wanted a high performance race braking system I personally would not buy somebody else's half used up parts for half a grand . Seems kinda counter productive IMHO .sounds like You want the best but don't want to pay for it . I wouldn't cheap out on your brakes , it's kinda important to stop

Two things...

Save yourself the hassle and just cut your rear brake sheild (to fit your new rear SS/ZL1 calipers)to avoid having to mess with the rear axle hub bolt.

Bleed your brakes as best as you can then drive to the dealer and pay the $80(plus 3 bottles of Motul 600 RBF) to have them bleed the brakes completely.

Search for my thread in the LFX subforums for some other good info.

Have fun.

Bought low mileage. Nothing really to worry about there

Yup I bought take offs as well and upgraded to the SS master cylinder. Night and day difference in stopping power over the V6 brakes. In fact probably at least 80% of forum readers have done their upgrade this way. Not cheaping out when you buy high quality parts to begin with

What they said.
I got my set used with R1 drilled slotted rotors and racing pads for less than $500 from a member. I bought new SS lines, fluid, pads, bolts, front rebuild kit(didn't need it though seals looked perfect) and resurfaced the rotors. Still need to get around to getting an SS master cylinder. Have less than $600 in a full set of Brembos though. The rear calipers where even freshly powder coated and rebuilt so just cleaned the dust off them.
Conversion kit manual attached and a link to 01pewterz28 install thread with lots of pics from the job.

Will the ss brembo calipers fit on any v6 rotor? I've been looking at a set of slotted rotors for my car but Im also looking to buy used ss calipers. Will I have to start looking at ss rotors in the aftermarket?

Oh, if you do an SS brake conversion you have to have 20" wheels (19 MIGHT suffice)

I would recommend getting ss rotors...even look at barely used ss rotors for a more cost effective option. I don't think it would be a good idea to put the 4 piston caliper on a smaller surface area v6 rotor.

I read where a few members said the 1lt 19 inch Factory wheel will work.

what about an 18" by 8.5 corvette rim? Ive been looking at set for some time now. maybe add a spacer? Ive read somewhere on here that some have fit these calipers in 18'' and 17'' but I dont know how true that is.
