Clutch Slipping
Well my clutch is starting to slip in higher gears with heavy throttle. Looks like I will have to start searching to see what others have used as a replacement clutch. I will also be searching to see if the flywheel, pilot bearing and slave are "must replace" items. If I replace the slave, I will be going with a speed bleeder as well.
I printed out the thread for easy transmission removal so I think that will make things easier. Like I stated, I will be doing searches to see what everyone else has been doing, but if you want to chime in here, it is appreciated. |

Mods? Miles? Stock clutch is pretty good for most, just don't slip it or NLS, it will last a long time.

570 RWHP, 10% pulley, LT's, CAI, injectors and tune. 50K miles. I have been to the track twice and have used NLS.

Checked Rock Auto for the hell of it just to see what the baseline replacement cost would be and they don't even have the clutch for this car.
Went to GM Parts Direct again to see what the stock replacement would be and they have the pressure plate, flywheel and pilot bearing, but no clutch discs. Going aftermarket I see Ram and Mcleod make clutch kits. Since I am only about 70 HP over stock, I figure I will be good with there entry level system. |

Looks like Monster has some kits also. It looks like all of these come as kits with flywheel pressure plate and clutch disc.

Stock is more than fine with those numbers and you did pretty good at 50k. Mine was roughly 1250 bucks for everything from GM partsnow a year ago. The clutch disk are in the pressure plate...

Just for the hell of it, You could try some aggressive down shifting. That might bring it back for a while.

I have never had a dual disc clutch. The discs are in the pressure plate? that would explain why GM parts direct didn't have a clutch disc. THank you very much for that information.

I'd go stock, and skip the dragstrip. A prepped tacky track will kill any clutch in a heavy car with big power and no sidewalk flex.
It didn't die because it was a low quality clutch. |

I replaced mine with the stock clutch. Got it for $345 and had someone resurface the flywheel for $40. GM says it's not recommend but guy said it was no issue for him to resurface a dual mass flywheel. I didn't replace the pilot bearing since mine only had 17k miles and as hard as I was driving it I figured I'd be changing the clutch in a year again. Well things have changed a bit and I haven't been able to do hardly any racing and I have 32k miles now and have no issues. I really like the stock clutch I've really abused it and it holds up well.

Not a ZL1 but I had the Mcleod TXT. Great for abusive track use but sucked on the street. I have the ACT clutch now and actually like it better. It's also easier to get out of fear so better for quicker shifts uphill and on the strip.
