The reason front plates are being kept in CA is because they make way more money for the state through red light camera infractions then it costs to make the plate. Police didn't actually start enforcing the law until the cameras were in place. In order for a conviction to "stick" in a court of law, they need to get a clear picture of your face, the plate, and the light all in the same picture... something tough to do with only a rear plate.

I'm in Louisiana, (no front plate required). When I see a car, any car, with a front plate, it gives me that feeling you get when you're talking to someone who has something stuck in their teeth. It makes me rub my nose... just annoying to me.

that being said, I've run into a few of these "front plate" threads and I'll post the same youtube link I usually post:

I know this one says New York, but this would be a must-have for me if I lived somewhere that required a front plate.

I also realize that being a motorized add-on it's one of those things where "the more complicated it is, the more chances there are for it to go wrong."

If they're not required on motorcycles, why should they be on sports/muscle cars?

I don't have any problems... because I put the front plates on! Obeying the law is a shocking concept for many around here, I know, but I'm just a rebel like that.

Yes but idiotic, or unfair, or simple money-grab laws need to be repealed. You go ahead and obey, the rest of us work on repeal (or move to Florida )

I agree with both who said it was for radar gun purposes. Now days you have so much fiberglass and metal at weird angles police need a flat, solid surface to help get more accurate/easier readings.

I also agree that it can kill the look of a nice car, it sucks. That yellow 5th gen with the bracket-less plate formed around the bumper is sex though, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

The reason for front plates is so the police have a good target for their Lidar.

first, it's only a front plate. Not pink polka dots on you whole car.

2nd, in MN, you pay for your own plates anyway, so the State doesn't save any money.

Here in Nevada, the law reads that if you weren't provided a front plate bracket by the dealer, you don't have to run a front plate. So...what's got two thumbs and no front plate? This guy
It still boggles my mind when I see vettes running front plates or retards with them guillotine-style in the front windshield in NV.
