Riding high in the back?
I feel like my car is high in the back. I have some weight out but nothing crazy, car is overall maybe 200-240 lbs than stock.
Anyone see how much gap I have between the tires and the body?

Yup, Supercars will help... Lower the whole thing...

Mine sits about there. There is a measurable HP difference at different ride heights due to the CV axles having to work harder if the car is super low. We actually tested this on a dyno - you'd be shocked, really. 12hp difference with the axles level vs the car slammed to the ground and the axles canted. Needless to say I've been setting rear ride height by axle angle ever since.

I'm not looking to go super low and slam the car but I will have to lower it, car is visually so raked that has to be affecting weight transfer.
Nspar, Are the COPO front struts different, more extension? Jeff mentioned that the other day I found that interesting.

John, I just looked at mine with 305/45R18 MTs on the rear and it looks just as high as yours. My tires are about wore out, but as best I could measure about 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" from wheel well to tire. I have not removed any sprung weight from my car, but gas tank is only about at 1/4.

John, I lowered mine (BMR) and love the look, but once I did, I lost 60-foot time until I also ditched the front sway. Seems to help weight transfer. But now I'll be checking the axle angle as suggested above with my new 9" DSS, which is going in as I type. Padre |

I'll have to measure but I definitely have to lower this car, and the rake has got to go.

My car has a rake to it also, but on launch it dips in the rear and the front lifts some. I removed the sway bar...seems to have helped. I would think level and stiffer in the rear would help. Have you thought about running a rear drag bar? I was thinking 1" lowering springs and a drag bar in the rear for mine. I actually think mine dips to much and is wasting energy that could be put to the ground.

" Strange Engineering <strangeeng1@ameritech.net> to me The latest ones use a 16” 125lbs spring. The front brake kit is available thru MPR Race cars. The front spindle needs to be modified for the kit to work and he has done all of those modifications. Part number for the springs is SP16125A. They are sold as each so you will need 2 of them. Thanks Jim Buschman Assistant Sales Manager|Strange Engineering" |

And from MPR
I can build the front drag race Strange brakes using your Camaro spindles and hubs. The both need to be machined and I also have the brakes in stock. If you ship the spindles and hubs to me I can ship them back with the brakes installed for $1000, this includes spindle and hub modifications and assembly, shipping is not included. You also need to modify the brake pedal assembly to eliminate the power brake booster. Using your pedal assembly the COPO style kit including the master cylinder and firewall brace (just like the COPO) would cost $400. Normal assembly time frame would be about a week but my shop will be closed now until Oct 28th. Let me know if you are interested in any or all of these parts. Strange does not have a vented rotor kit developed for the new Camaro yet and I'm not sure they have any plans to do so. If the brake pedal and master cylinder id done properly I think this brake system would work good for light street use. Thanks! Mike Pustelny @ MPR So these aren't quite shelf parts, other then the struts/springs, but they're available if you dig deep enough. |
