Need help! Possible dead LLT

My buddy has an LLT camaro with about 110,000miles on the clock, and we think it just died on him today.

He was cruising about 70-ish, gave it some gas to change lanes and pass someone, foot wasn't on the floor, just a light tap, and the car shuttered, and a god awful rattle started coming from the engine. Thankfully we were about 2 minutes away from his house, so we babied it to the driveway.

The car has trouble starting now, when it does there is a rattle/knock coming from somewhere inside the motor, it idles rough, and when you give it gas the rattle gets worse... any ideas at all? Would a video help diagnose?

Definitely sounds like an issue in the bottom end of the motor, could be any one or numerous bearings, could be a thrown rod... with knocks they're hard to diagnose with tearing the motor apart

We only cranked it once after getting it back home, just to see if we could diagnose the noise, haven't done anything with it since. We were hoping it wasn't anything that would require the motor being opened. To be honest I was hoping he just had a bad spark plug...but I don't think that's the case.

We are attempting to get into contact with the dealership, he actually only bought the car 6 days ago... but since it's got over 100,000 miles I don't know if they will do anything for him. Hopefully he doesn't have to pay out of pocket for this.

cut the oil filter open and look in the folds for metal debris. If there is any in there you're gonna be tearing the motor open

Does the car start and then start idling rough? When you put the key in run without starting does the engine make a clicking sound?

I'll keep you all posted, might have to add it to the list of LLT failures due to spun bearings, if that is the cause. As far as GM offering a break, who knows. He bought it used from a Ford dealer... who promptly sent it to a Chevy dealer after the Ford mechanic started the car and heard the noise it was making, so I'm not sure how that's going to work.
