Exclamation Subaru Announces New RWD Sports Car "Subaru BRZ"

Details via FT86club site

Quote:
One piece of info our community has long been awaiting has just been announced.

Subaru has issued a press release [full transcript inside] announcing the Subaru BRZ name for its concept version of the rear-drive sports coupe that it is co-developing with Toyota.

While Toyota has already shown three concept versions of the FT-86 and Scion FR-S, Subaru has so far only shown a skeletal/powertrain/drivetrain concept (the Boxer Sports Car Architecture Concept). That should change as Subaru will be revealing its BRZ “technology concept” car at next month’s Frankfurt IAA auto show.

See INSIDE for more details and link to the Subaru BRZ teaser site.
Can you say BRZ STi ?! (i know, awkward name)

That could be a serious performer for a decent price. Like a Godzilla junior.

And people thought Cadillac's naming scheme was confusing.

Automotive nomenclature has gone nutz.

Didn't Plymouth have a Neon derivative named the Breeze?

It's rumored (note: RUMORed) to be 2700 - 2800 lbs and a shade under $20 grand. Could be a great transplant recipient for a large American v8. It's supposed to handle pretty well and doesn't have a cd player, as the developers figured everyone would be plugging in their ipods which I thought was pretty neat. They also have built in room for a roll cage if you choose to install one.

I just hope it doesn't turn into a celica-clone.

no the Breeze was the Plymouth version of the larger 'cloud cars' aka Dodge Stratus, Plymouth Breeze, Chrysler Cirrus .

I wondered when this would start happening. Just have a stereo with a USB port, no CD player necessary these days

No, no sir it could not. That would totally ruin the point of the car, throw off the center of gravity, the handling, etc. A turbo? sure, but a big V8? No.

Essentially it would be like putting the motor from a supra in a Camaro. You just don't do it.

If they put the sti drivetrain in it, it will be a monster. Doesn't the ft86 weigh like 2400 lbs? 300hp, maybe 2600lbs with awd. . . I would buy it in a second.

The FT86 is estimated to be about 2600-2900 and about 220 ish HP out of a N/a 4 cylinder
