Considering the price point of a 2SS/RS I was shocked it was not an option.
keyless is the way to go for sure.
Cant stand having a key I have to pull out.

my Infiniti had the magic key and I loved it.

never ever have to dig for keys.
just walk up and boom it opens and starts.
thats how it should be.
the Challenger has it as well.

using what to control it all?
I would be very hesitant to use a 3rd party for this type of system.

What's so hard about twisting a key?

I can't imagine being so saturated with self-importance that any of my cars should start themselves up simply because I approach them.

Or feeling that being seen reaching for a real key was beneath my dignity.

Tell me, does an auto-start car feel snubbed if you walk close enough to it for it to start but you don't get in because you weren't going to go anywhere in it?

For those interested:

http://www.advancedkeys.com/Prod_AK104B.html

I have never had their product installed, but I have heard and read excellent things about it. The kit is $349.00 but includes everything you need for a complete keyless conversion.

Automatic hands free locking and unlocking of the doors as you approach or leave the proximity of the car, push button start/stop, and code hopping RFID - the same technology used by the OEMs with push button start/stop.

You will most likely need to buy a can/bus bypass module to integrate withe the Camaro's factory ignition system. And if you want auto window roll up as you walk away that is an option. Including installation expect to pay close to $500.00 for everything.

But this is the way to go if you want keyless ignition done right.

It is not Photoshopped. I purchased the kit from Advanced Keys. You have to use a bypass device in conjunction with the Advanced Keys unit. The one I used is by Fortin.

The way the system works after it is installed is, you keep the flat card (see photo) Name: remotes.jpg
Views: 1103
Size: 63.4 KB in your pocket and as you walk within 2-3 meters of the 2 antenna (mine are placed on front and rear windows), the car unlocks. You get in and hold down brake and clutch (just brake in the auto I think) and tap button.

I also bought the auto close window module so if the windows are down and sunroof is open, I get out, walk away and they roll up and close on their own once the doors lock. Press and hold the unlock button on the card and it opens the trunk.

I did not do the install but so far (It was installed in late July 2012) it works flawlessly. There is a valet mode for when you get service or car wash, etc. Put it in valet mode and the doors will not lock until you hit the buttons on the card.

I hope there are no rules about putting links in posts. If so I apologize in advance but here is the link to Advance Keys. Oh yea before I forget I believe the kit was appx $450 plus about $60 for the bypass (shop around on this one as the price varies big time). The guy charged me $250 for the install but it also did my foot well lights and installed a pistol grip shift handle..(let me know if you guys want pics of the shift handle)

Norm, not sure if your post was directed at me directly or the thread as a whole but I did not do it because I feel self important, hell I didn't even do it because using the key was inconvenient or too much work. I did it simply because I liked the idea but as it turns out, it is quite convenient. For the price I paid, I am quite happy.

I think having push button start would be fantastic. Then I would not have to put my beer down to search for the key in my pocket.

push button would be cool, but the down side to that is when they go they go and you are not going anywhere. At least with a key you can usually feel when the ignition starts going bad, hard to turn or put into the ignition switch, etc. and can get it fixed before you are stuck somewhere.

Edit: just read over that link and that is pretty cool.

Not to you or anybody else personally, and not really against the thread. I realize that there are mods that others do that I'd never go near, just like there are a few mods I'll do or have done that might not even cross other peoples' minds. All OK. Hell, in a serious enough race car I probably would have a dedicated starter switch of some sort myself with nothing left hanging from the steering column.

It's the thought that proximity locks and pushbutton start should be the car's standard production line fitment - as suggested at least a couple of times in this thread - that's just . . . wrong. And that's what prompted post #63.

The push button start is cool. But my wife has it in her Taurus and twice now she has shut the car off and got out without putting the car in park. At least with a key you have to put it in park to get the key out.
