It should be, but have A LOT of money set aside to transfer your registration! The fee was over $1000 BEFORE the rate hike in June.

I can relate. In Delaware they charge 3.75% of the value of the car plus tag fees to transfer a title from another state. That's $1425 + if you have a $38k 2SS/RS. That hurts even more after you just paid the fees when you bought the car in your state.

I live in CA and I recently bought a vette out of state. As long as you are the owner all you will have to do is get it smog tested (No way around this for a nonresident vehicle), then just pay the registration fee.

Here's a handy calculator:

haha, I'm purchasing in MT, but registering in GA...
MT= 0% sales tax, GA=6% sales tax.

Ga. makes you pay the difference up to 6%...
got a $2270 check to write myself...

Minnesota has almost as many tree-huggers as California, they just have more snow.
So I'm pretty sure the emissions will likely be just as strict.

As for the registration...in my situation, I told the Pennsyvania dealership where I bought my SS new to use the Virginia sales tax rate and they cut a separate check to the VA DMV so the taxes were still rolled into my financing. Maybe this situation would apply the same for you to avoid getting hit twice somehow.

Last I checked we don't have tree huggers here. NO emissions requirement, no yearly inspection of vehicles, no nothing.......
