Cam/Lifter Help
My father is a mechanic and will install everything for me BUT I have a question about the lifters.
I plan on getting new lifters but I do not know which lifters I can use or I need. I have a Lethal Racing Night Fury Cam. Any help, helps me out alot. I also am buying a trunnion upgrade, C5R timing chain, and 3 bolt camshaft kit. Thank you for all the help! |

Any particular reason you are changing the lifters in it? AFM/DOD delete? Crazy cam specs?
Just curious what is wrong with the ones in it |

I put a new set of factory lifters in when I did my heads and cam.

Many people have told me I should upgrade the lifters while I'm changing the cam out. I also seen many people say on forums to upgrade lifters if I'm not running stock cam. I have 61k miles on the engine, also I am putting kooks headers in while I'm at it.

If you're going to do the lifters your going to have to pull the heads at that point you might as well get them ported.also don't forget to replace the lifter trays when I did my ported heads at 15K the lifter trays were a little loose holding the lifters compared to the new ones...I went back with the stock ls7/ls3 lifters

As mentioned above, stock lifters will be fine to replace with if you decide to replace them. At 61k I would just for peace of mind.

I think you are going to keep getting the same advice....if you replace...go stock.

way you will still need to measure for p-rod length.

And replacing the lifters is a must as they have established wear patterns in the stock stick if they have more than a few miles on them and have most likely some defects from the stock bump stick that may want to transfer into problems for the new one let alone the wear they take. I use BTW driven racing oil BR30 to break in even a cam not just a whole engine..... And dad should know you have 1.7 ratio rockers so setting the preload into the golden .040-.060 area for stock ls3/7 for low noise is about 3/4 turn being that the .047 thread pitch of the bolts threads for the rockers move the rocker .047 x 1.7 for actual movement with whole turn.......

I am looking at doing a cam swap, and it seems like a lot of people don't even pull the heads for the change. Many I have read about just change out the pushrods and springs, but leave the lifters. I didn't plan on changing mine. But I also only have like 20k on them |

Installed a cam around 70K and chose to replace my entire valve train including lifters and lifter retainers. Installed new GM pieces and all has been well.

First cam lasted almost 20k before original lifter collapse. Second time around another shop swore by LS7 lifters and now 469 rwhp on mustang dyno and almost 60k miles on new set up not a problem or worry yet
