What's the steering wheel deal?

I had a member come by my house this morning with his new 2012 1ss. We were comparing some changes on the 12 model. I thought the steering wheel had a flat spot on the bottom? His didnt. Here's his:

Here's mine

Here's the paddle shifter on the '12

I never understood it either.. I do like the more modern look of the '12 better but I find nothing wrong with either of them.

I believe that only the ZL-1 steering wheel has the flat spot.

Everything I had searched before posting this pointed to the fact that the 2012's had the flat spot wheel. I hadn't found anything about being zl1 specific. But that's kool, now I know. Either one looks ok to me but the regular '12 wheel looks kinda like the lower car line wheels.

The zl1 is the only one with the flat bottom. Personally I like to old steering wheel the best.

What's the purpose of the flat spot? To give you more leg room because of more legwork when racing?

I think they made the buttons on the wheel on the 12' much more user friendly. The ones on mine 10' towards the center of the wheel are hard to access. Kinda of poor design. Also, never thought the most user friendly/understandable icons. Same as the menu button on the turn signal I can't even see it hidden behind the wheel. I think they will improve this as the years progress.
