Yeah Onstar is your best bet for RECOVERING your vehicle, NOT GOOD for prevention.

If your car gets stolen all you do is call onstar and they'll notify local police with GPS and they'll get your car back with little to no damage as long as you call immediately. Theives take cars to dismantle them, not to drive them around to keep.

Viper alarm systems work well too for prevention.

nothing will prevent a car thief from stealing your car if they really want it, and have the skills.

as others have said...as long as you pay for the OnStar service, your baby should be in good hands.

my car will be parked in my garage at night, and I put a crowbar in the wheel track of the garage door so that it's impossible to raise. while i'm at work, i can park where I can see my car from my desk...so all things combined, i'm relatively comfortable that it won't be stolen.

my only concern will be those nights that I take it downtown to Atlanta. I'll probably just take the Tahoe, or my kitted out 1st gen dodge neon...like I do now. i'll take it downtown if I know I'm going to a nice place that has really good and secure valet parking... at least until the car become a little more common.

i have a room in the basement with window views of the drive way and I will definately wake if i hear a maro turning on, at which point i grab my pistol and a sword (sword for effect..lol). but i would hope my anti-theft will help some.. then again i live in a very safe nieghborhood so I have nothing to worryabout reguardless.. Also is on-star free the first year, and that will help lower insurance, am i correct??

I actually want to get a hidden gps tracker. A skilled thief will know if your car has onstar, and I would assume if they take it they will have a way of disabling it.

skilled != master

There's ways to defeat everything, especially if you know ahead of time what it is you are facing. And with the internet, any idiot can figure those things out. That's why a lot of websites adopt security via obscurity tactics, where some sort of proprietary failsafe is used that would be unexpected by the perp.

I have used a great security system at my home to protect my cars for years. This is active 24 hours a day and to date I have never had a problem. Too bad it only works at home.
