Retainers
Do I need to purchased new titanium retainers when I change out the springs? It`s a BTR STAGE 4 cam with titanium when it was installed.

What's more expensive a new set of titanium retainers or a new engine?
OP: buy new ones! Cheap shit compared to dropping a valve due to a busted retainer

We just had a guy loose a Ti retainer and drop a valve. Supposedly Ti does wear much quicker than the steel retainers and is probably something you want to replace when you do springs.
I was (an still am) on the fence on retainers - I went with the steel because the extra 5 grams didn't bother me all that much, and I intend on putting lots of miles on my setup, and probably going through a few sets of springs. However, I wasn't really thinking I'd be turning this thing much past 7000rpm when I spec'd it out and bought parts. Now that I've got it all together I find it very happily makes power all the way out to 7300rpm, which is as far as I've been willing to go, and I find myself thinking maybe I should have got that extra 5 grams off the intake valves.

I'm under the impression and with how my springs looked after putting 22k miles on my stg 4 btr cam. The springs retainers, and valve seals should all be replaced every 20k miles. even if my lifters had not failed, i had a couple valve seals going too, so I would have still has some issues...

I definitely agree with it being cheap insurance. Just speaking from my experience, having never seen a broken or worn retainer.

At 20k miles I'm replacing all my springs and assosicated parts. High performance valvesprings dont have the service life of a stock valvetrain, there is a lot more load on things.

Gotcha, apologies for my comment then. I didn't know it wasn't a normal occurrence until doing some research.

BTR told me don't use the titanium retainers if the car is a daily or going to get a lot of miles. Just a heads up

I have a set on a car that’s been 90k miles. Mine had 50k. Really it’s hard to say why it failed. Really “good” titanium retainers are about $500
