Wink Thinking of getting rid of my Monte Carlo

I have owned 'Monty' 3 years this summer and he just turned 162K on the clock. but he is going to a good home a co worker of mine is gonna buy him from me in June. I would LOVE to get another Monte Carlo but there just are not any of them in my area (west NY) that do not cost a arm and a leg.

I am leaning more towards a ragtop, while I would love to get a Mustang ragtop *ducks*, I am mostly looking at Chrysler Sebring ragtops. any advice on them, I would prefer a 2nd gen (01-06) over the 1st which most are 6 figures on the odo, and the 3rd gen is too much $$$ for me.

I'm keeping my Monte Carlo.
Chrysler Sebrings are FWD, V6 and junk. Why a drop top? They are noisy, cold, rattly, leaky and no security. They are more expensive to insure and more dangerous in an accident.
If you must have one, I'd choose a Mustang CV over a Sebring CV.

Thumbs up

funny i know 2 people that have em one is 96 one is a 02 and they are still as good as when they are new. the reason why I do not want to get the 'stang is I want to be able to drive it year round I would not drive a stang or ANY rear drive car in west NY in winter. I tried that when I had my Thunderbird damn car could not get up any hills from a stop but had ZERO probs in my Monte or in my Stratus (which the Sebring is based off of ). If I was out west with my brother in L.A. I would jump at a stang or even an older camaro 3rd or 4th gen droptop .

Sebring are horrible cars. My ex has one and it's always been a hunk of trash. I'd look elsewhere.

I would a avoid a Sebring. They are the rental lot convertible: about as much fun to drive as a 2006 Taurus, only much less reliable.

If you must have a Sebring, stay away from the 2.7L V6 unless you budget in an engine rebuild. Those are notorious for sludging up and failing early.

Aside from an occasionally interesting vehicle, I don't think the flies have ever stopped circling Chrysler since the Iacocca bailout. Have always been leery of them cutting corners, and going under.

I don't see LeBarons still on the road... Or New Yorkers, Dodge Dynasties, etc. People do not love Chryslers enough to keep them maintained. They are disposable cars.

I actually turn my head to see a K car that still runs. They were as common as crows in the 1990s.

Well, if you weren't looking for a convertible, I'd say snag a Grand Prix GTP.....quality performance, decent mpg, and you can still get the supercharged V6 rather cheap..

If you are really going to look at the vert Sebrings....you only want the 03-05 models....as in 2006, they went to that new hideous shitbox. You'll also want the 3.0L V6, as that's 200hp.

I owned a turbo'd Stratus, and it was a good car, but I got rid of it because it wasn't practical for a new dad.

We had the displeasure of having a Sebring for a rental once.

Blech.

Get the thought of getting a Sebring out of your mind. It is Chrysler's version of a Chevy Cavalier. You know about the Cavalier right?

The Sebring is terrible, go for something like a SN95 Mustang.

Um, I wouldn't suggest a GTP for reliability, great engine, but the rest of the car is junk and will basically fall apart around it.....

Op, just watch what you get, do the carfax thing, and make sure it was never a rental. As liong as it was maintained it should be fine. As for the sludge thing, as long as oil changes were done regularly and ontime, you will be fine. Most of these people have probably never owned a Chrysler and just buy into the hype......
