Well let's just say the mold idea failed. I'm sure that a place with professional equipment, etc could pull it off. I was able to make a piece but the quality was not what I was hoping for.

So back to Shapeways I went! I had a new emblem 3d printed out of matte black coated bronze infused stainless steel. Yeah it was a little spendy, but by the time I had filled the letter indentations, I'm extremely happy so far...

This is my first experimental piece. Luckily I only ordered one because I see just today that as of October 7th, Shapeways will be dropping the price of their steel 3d printed pieces by 30%!! This makes this option much more economical, as it drops the price about $20 each give or take a few buck depending on the final finish you choose. Then it's simply a matter if filling the letters and sticking them on your car.

This is sweetness.

Any way I could pay you for the 3D printer files? We have two at work and I'd love to use it.

Shoot me a PM, I'm sure we can work something out that makes you richer

You can download the file from Shapeways (the link is back a page or two) for free.

Come the 7th, I'm going to order 3 more of these, and I'll try to maybe do some kind of DIY on what I do to fill them if people want.

Both of the black and white plastics are a flat-ish finish, so you can't even see the black because it doesn't reflect much light... Thinking maybe these could be clear coated before filling the letters to make them glossy?

I REALLY like the Alumide one (Alumide is Nylon Plastic filled with Aluminum dust. This dust gives Alumide the sparkle)...

I ordered some syringes to easily fill the letters, and my own mold, so I will be attempting a little of everything as soon as they show up.
Did you ever make these? I want 2 for the hood
