The Redheaded Stepchild

Picked up this super clean low mile 14 2ss back in March. Most of the mods were already done but I've added some touches here and there. Will update this thread as I add more.

As purchased mod list -

2014 Camaro 2SS
SBE L99
D1SC Procharger
Yank 3800 PAS convertor
ARP head studs
Custom boost cam/DOD/VVT delete
Stainless works headers & mid pipes
Magnaflow axle back
Fore dual pump fuel system
Fore FC3 controller
FIC 1300cc injectors
BMR springs
1le wheels
~600 rwhp

New additions -

Tru-cool 40k trans cooler
Forgestar d5 17×10/18×8 wheels
Nitto 305/45/17 DR's
BMR poly cradle/diff bushings
BMR non-adjustable trailing arms
Smaller pulley + retune for added boost
Carlyle 15" brake kit
BMR Xtreme Anti-roll Bar
~750 rwhp

To come -

BMR rear drag suspension kit
Racestar 15×10 wheels wrapped in 275/60/15 Hoosier DR2's

Best dragy pass with 17" ET streets on the old setup -

7.43 @ 101 and 1.90 60' in -400 DA

Best on current setup -

7.15 @ 101.1 (ran out of room and got on the brakes about 50' early) and 1.84 60' on Nitto DR's in +9xx DA

Those numbers are on unprepped Mexican streets, no burnout, just stop and stomp. Took it to the track once on old setup (minus the wheels/tires) and went 7.44 @ 96 2000+ DA with a 1.75 60' and wheelhop city. Hoping to go mid 6's on the new setup once I get everything together.

As she sat when I got her -

Thank you sir!

Today's round of mods, added the Carlyle 15" brake kit and BMR anti-roll bar. That bar is a BEEFY piece compared to the stock sway bar. Install went pretty smooth with only a couple minor hiccups. I'll need to reroute the brake lines to clear the 15" wheels but I'll do that when I install the new LCA's and coilovers. Test drove to bed the brakes and made a couple hits. Everything feels good and tight as it should be, no extra noise or vibration to speak of from the new sway bar.

Old vs new:

Well everything was going great until it wasn't. Made a couple pulls on my way to work the other day, hit a new best mph of 106.5 with the cooler air, nothing seemed amiss. Started the drive home and coolant temps were a little wonky, then rapidly spiked up to 240 before I could pull over and they dropped again. Let it cool off soon as I got home and opened the radiator. Sure enough, missing coolant + oil in the rad. Pull the plugs and find oil on #7. So all but confirmed blown head gasket, I'll be slowly pulling it apart in what little free time I have over the next few weeks and hope it was just a gasket failure.

Bummer man, hopefully you get her sorted out quickly and nothing major was damaged. Sounds like you stopped the car just in time to prevent any real damage though.

I'm hoping so. I definitely need to figure out if it was just a freak failure or if there was a root cause before I throw it back together and have it happen again. Hopefully once I get the heads off everything in the valvetrain and elsewhere looks solid, but that won't be for a couple weeks at least.

Not much to update here. Dropped the heads at the machine shop to get resurfaced and the valves redone (had a busted seal on #7).

Taking care of some other odds and ends in the meantime. Wiring on the o2's was burnt up pretty bad on both sides so got new sensors/extensions to go in. Oil "cooler" had a small leak so went ahead and got everything I needed to delete that, and took off the front swaybar since I'm setting the car up to be a straight line warrior. New gaskets all around, and upgrading to some 1200 or 1300cc injectors when she goes back together.

!A bunch of crap I don't need, lol -

Got everything back together and fired up finally. Had a couple minor issues (wiring and such) that I don't have the time/expertise to track down and repair, so it's at a friend's shop for that and he is going to throw in some 1300cc injectors while it's there. After that it goes to Pat G for tuning. Dropped it off yesterday, hoping to have my girl back and tip top in just a couple weeks now!

I know its not the best of circumstances, but that's a really cool photo! I hope your friend is able to work out all the gremlins for you.

Makes me wanna buy a car hauler just so I can put the two of them together more often, I'm obviously a little biased but I think that's a damn sexy car/tow pig combo, lol.

Got good news this afternoon, the car is 100% buttoned up mechanically and will be heading to the tuner tomorrow morning!
