New Nitto NT05R Review
After going through 2 sets of MT ET Streets, I decided to be a miserly skinflint and save $100+ and bought a pair of Nitto NT05Rs. Went to the track tonight with them and am very disappointed in their efficacy. I could go with my MTs @ 17.5 PSI and dead hook all night long and end up with slips that were within less than 0.10 seconds of each other. Tried 17.5, 17.0 16.5, 15.5 and 15.0 and tried extra long burnouts and never did get them to dead hook. I usually tape up my rear quarter panels to catch the rubber coming off the tires during the burnout, and with the Nitto there is hardly any rubber on the tape. The 5 runs I went through with (gave up on some because of wheel spin/rear step out) were all over the place, varying as much as 0.50 seconds from fastest to slowest. I also noticed the tires were not picking up any debris (pebbles, grass, butts, etc.) after the run like the MTs did. I'm going to give them a couple more shots, and if they don't perform back to the MTs for me.
If anybody has any suggestions for me I'll be happy to entertain them. Edit: Tried to put a FAIL emoticon in title, but failed at that as well. |

Dude I and many others posted how much better mt's are. For a sticky street tire the nt05R works. Not for the track if u are making hp.

I daily drive on them, better than stock, but once I do more mods like H/C I'm going to switch to slicks my local tracks are hit and miss. My best 60 on then is 1.66.

I think you are right. I already ordered another set of of Mickeys so I can put them on when my patience runs out, and patience is not one of my virtues.
Curious, what is FTW. Don't laugh, I'm 69 and some of these whatever-they-ares go right on by me. I do know what WTF means. |

John, I would have been pleased with a 1.66 last night. Couldn't stay in it off the line. These NT05Rs will probably be for sale, and cheap, in a week or two.

FTW stands for "for the win"
Ya I was really disappointed in the Nitto's..... I had the same experience with the spinning... All the way thru 3rd gear..... And I would just let off after that.... Lmao!!! Ya I was saying WTF after my first couple runs with the Nitto's!!

JB how many street miles and passes have you been getting on your M/T drag radials?

John, last pair I got 40 passes (approx. $17.50 per pass) and 1,324 total miles. Previous pair I did better with about 60 passes and about 2,000 total miles, but my burnouts in the early days of that pair were poor and the grip was lacking because of the weak burnouts. Had hoped the NT05R would get me better life and equal grip. If you gamble sometimes you lose.

Sorry, I must of missed the part on what's all done to your car and ls3 or l99 or LSA?
Have you ever tried the Hoosier qtp's? I heard from a local buddy that they last longer then m/t's and very close in performance. Also how are you doing your burnout with the Nittos? I have a feeling you're not getting them hot enough. Much like the nitto nt555r, they need to get hot, and I mean reallllly hot in order to stick good. Try a new burnout technique. With the Nitto's, you gotta toss away your thinking/technique that works for the mickeys. Try adding more wheel speed for an additional 10-15 seconds on top of whatever burnout technique youre using right now. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
