I have friends who have had a lot of success with Bailys hyperformance. They’re who I’ll be going to next tine I need anything done. As for smog laws, I have no idea as my car is still registered in California

Texas state inspection (emissions and safety) varies by county.

It's visual + OBD2 and short test drive (brakes etc)

Some counties are less restrictive than others.

If you are moving to the Dallas area, make it Denton county. Basic visual, drive and OBDII smog check. The shop that did my annual check knew my car and only did the OBDII.

As for performance shops, Anything Automotive in Denton is the place to go. Honest shop, they talked me out of doing things that wouldn't help or weren't needed on my car. How often does that happen? John, Jason and Frank are the best around. Their tuner, James, is a magician.

Anything Automotive definitely has some talent. Jason has built some crazy stuff and James is well known for his tuning. I live a little farther East down 380 so I take my car to True Street Motorsports in McKinney. Clint runs the shop there and he is incredibly helpful. He is personally a Ford guy and works on a ton of mustangs, but he and his team do all cars. On any given day there are 20-30 highly modded cars in the garage and in the lot. He has an awesome tuner as well.

What part of Texas are you moving to?

I lived in San Antonio for few years so similar but different. You’ll be able to find a place to pass you if you search. Usually all local car guys know where to go

Denton County is OBDII only. No sniffer. No visual.

Im in Houston area and have no cats either but my tuner tuned the ECM for this setup so no check engine light, my brother has similar setup on his Mazdaspeed3 and it passed emissions because the car reads no codes. FYI the sniffer is used on pre OBD2 cars(95) so anything after that gets only the scanner and if there is no codes set for higher pollution the car should pass unless you get a pesky inspector who will get on his belly to physically check for cats; tint will more likely keep you from passing since its easier to check. Welcome to Texas, former home of Whataburger. Some areas outside major cities only get safety inspections and nothing more, the testing depends on what area you register your new address as.
