The difference is that the OP recognized the screw up and is trying to fix it. Take it somewhere else and they could have made the same mistake and not told anyone about it or tried fixing it. Changing oil these days isn't about saving money. It's bonding with you car and knowing that it was done right.

I'd try to find the foil like others mention above.
Changing oil is not hard. Although I know of several people who had their engines ruined from professionals that forgot to put in the plug. Mine will not go to the dealer for oil or quick change company. |

Should just be in the valve cover... Start there.

Had my oil changed by "professionals" once (Trans Am) and was flagged down a few miles away by other motorists who saw a trail of fluid coming from behind me. Turned out the oil changer knocked a transmission line out. Could have easily destroyed my tranny.
It's not hard to change your oil - does not require "professionals." I don't do my own because I don't have time to, but surely there's nothing "professional" about doing a car oil change.

...equating the cost of the vehicle with whether or not to change your own oil makes no sense to me. 400,000 bucks, 40,000 bucks or 400 dollars, it's his car.

Did you get it out yet?
It takes me longer to drive to a dealer/ oil change shop than it does for me to change it myself. I guess I value my time more than the convenience of having someone else do it for me! |

The oil drainage paths in these engines are HUGE. Chances are it will wash down into the pan. The oil pickup to the oil pump has a large screen over it. It will stay in the pan or stick to the inside of the sump somewhere until someone removes the oil pan. If it disintegrates enough to get through the screen it will get caught in the filter as designed. Drive the car and change the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles as most do. Don't flame me. Unless you're going to drive at the ragged edge every day keep on cruisin'.
