I know for a fact my main bearing clearances are just a touch bigger than spec. I thought about getting a higher volume oil pump to fill up that extra space and maybe lowering the oil temp.?

At a cold start, the oil pressure is 50psi, and when it warms up all the way the pressure is at 15psi or a little more.

What do you guys think I can do to lower the temp? because I'm pretty sure the temp is not supposed to get this high.

Thank you!

I'm in a similar situation. I recently rebuilt my LS3 with a BTR stage 3 cam. My hot idle oil pressure is about 15-20 psi. This has always bugged me but the pressures are great at any other rpm. In fact, if I rev and hold just above idle rpm, say 1000-1200, my oil pressure jumps to nearly 30. I tell myself this --"would you rather have a high idle pressure when it's not under any load or good pressure when you really need it?" I beat the hell outta my car on track days and she never complains. That in itself is enough for me to overcome my fears of low oil pressure at idle.

I would suggest you run a thicker oil if your bearing clearances on on the high side. Regardless of oil pressure.

Yea I'm sure. I'm the only person who's ever touched my oil pan. lol

Nice! Me too, happy with my pump and pressure. I change my oil every 3500 miles whether it needs it or not!! My changes are FREE, so why not. Plus I get to sit and chatt with my tech so I know I'm getting the correct oil, and 8 quarts. I do drive her very hard when we are out, so I like to keep the oil fresh. I also run a bottle of the ZMAX oil treatment every 7000 miles, have been using that product since she was new, and used it in my SC'd Mustang I had before the Camaro.. Great stuff..

What issues/symptoms were you experiencing that made you think the bearings were shot?

Of course this is a different block, different oil and different pump, but the pressure relief valve doesnt seem to stop me from exceeding 50psi.

Vr1 20w50. dart block, Melling "select" HP pump. 50psi at idle.
Same for me. I swapped the L99 pan over to my LS3 and left the valve installed. I regularly see over 50 psi.

I was seeing idle pressure at only 18 psi. But I now think that the l99 does indeed have a higher volume oil pump from the factory because I installed the M295 and the M10295 and with both those pumps my oil pressure dropped like 15 psi at idle and like I said before with the M10355hv my idle oil pressure went back up 15 psi to a total of 33 psi at idle "almost double". Just to let you know that I did do the crossmember mod so I can get my oil pan off now as well and I know it's not needed but I think it's just easier to take the pan off, The only thing that sucks is that damn oil cooler is a pain to take off and put back on but it get's easier each time. lol.

Well I have been researching the bypass relief valve in the pan and have read that the valve is set to open at anywhere from 65-80 psi depending on who you ask. A lot of incorrect info out there saying that the valve is set to open at 50-55 psi is apparently wrong seeing as you guys experience higher pressures then that regularly. The next mod I'm thinking about doing is the oil filter bypass valve that sits under the oil filter and allows unfiltered oil to bypass the filter in case of an oil restriction. But I will have to research it more first of course.

I think your idea of a higher volume oil pump might be a good idea but don't really know if it's necessary because of the 10 psi for every 1000 rpm rule. I just got mine for a piece of mind. And mishimoto sells an oil cooler kit that I'll eventually get.
