bad day on the road

was driving home from clearwater today on rt.60 east about 2 miles before the 275 entrance.semi swerved into my lane, tire lugs caught the rear fender and pulled me into the front bumper...at which point im now being pushed sideways down the road on the front bumper at 60 plus mph.literally could have reached out the now broken window and touched the grill if i hadnt been so busy thinking "this isnt real...this isnt real.he sees me on the bumper, hits the brakes and my camaro does a 270 and shoots across 2 more lanes of traffic, gets backwards and goes about 8 feet into a bunch of palmetto bushes in the median.car was towed to my dealer(stingray chevy in plant city.looks like it needs a drivers door, quarter panel, rear bumper and one wheel and tire...but no airbags went off.im still in shock, not sure if i even want the car repaired if its possible.oh yeah, glass all over the interior...picked a couple of tiny pieces out of my left ear after i got home.

Damn brother, I am glad you are ok.

I know the area you are talking about very well. It is absolutely crazy in that area.

Omg, so happy you are okay - lots of different ways that could have ended! Also can't believe the car wasn't totaled. You should try to parlay your longshot and buy a powerball ticket tomorrow.

The Camaro doesn’t matter at the end of the day. Glad you are safe. Cars can always be replaced. Lives and health, not so much.

not sure yet if the car will be totalled.i really dont want the quarter to be beaten out and filled with mud,car was like brand new before this.if anyone in florida has had experience with diminished value claims it would be good to hear from you,i dont want to wind up replacing axle bearings, etc, down the road out my own pocket.im glad i wasnt driving my wifes honda civic...i think the truck would have gone right over it.i had driven her car the last 3 times i went to clearwater due to the great gas mileage it gets.

Glad you're OK. This just goes to show what frickin' tanks these 5th Gens are. When I was looking to buy my first new vehicle I was impressed by the Camaros 5 star crash rating. Sure, you can drive something smaller with better fuel economy etc, etc but when you're meeting up with the modern version of the truck from the movie "Duel" the Camaro has your back (along with your front and sides). Yes, if it's totaled you'll have some decisions to make but if it can be saved you might want to consider hanging on to it, the two of have been through a lot together.

Luckily you're ok. One of the reason I bought the Camaro is its crash rating. I seen a few totaled out but the cabin is always intact.

yep,i was amazed to get out and walk around afterwards.still a little shook up and i will have to see what the body shop/adjuster have to say in a few days.i would like to keep the car but if not,we are both retired and dont really "need" 2 cars.but i would sure feel safer in the camaro than the civic.

I'm really happy you're OK redcoats1976 and listen to your body( maybe go see an EMT doc just to have them check your ears) if you can. That accident sounded terrifying and those damn trucks(I should say SOME drivers) don't care as they OWN the road. Tough decision about what to do about your Camaro Gen5, on one hand, the quarter being filled with mud sounds crappy but I also agree with you, don't want things coming up failing later on if they don't total it and it's on your dime. Bottom line, GLAD YOUR OK and GET SOME REST.

Holy cow brother!! That seemed like a very scarey mess for sure!! So glad it didn't turn out how it could have been. Dang, so sorry to here that. Glad YOU are alright! As mentioned above, cars can be replaced, but your life can't!! Good luck with it all, and yea you need to go and get your ears checked out since some glass got inside. Small splinters have a way to get to places they shouldn't.
