There are alot of things to consider here. I'm not saying "don't ever do it", but I truly think I your situation I wouldnt.
1. Are you planning on brand new? If so, i would plan on at least 5k miles before towing. In addition, having the first 2k miles on a car be highway miles is the worst possible way to break it in. 2. Unless I'm not aware, all hitches for the camaro require you to cut the diffuser. Are you going to ever use the hitch again? If not, it will be a $200 eyesore. 3. If you know you are moving to fl, wait and buy here. In addition to the above mentioned sales tax, you also will not be covered under fl's lemon law. 4. Cost - add up the hitch and the trailer for a one way tow. If you can put everything in one pickup, then most likely you might have other options. You could possibly ship your stuff via ups or fedex, I did that once. Also, what is you vehicle situation like? Can you go without one? I ask because if I were you, just from the info I have, I would sell the jeep, ship my stuff(maybe sell some things) and then fly to fl! |

It's not that the SS can't haul a trailer. It can for up to maybe 1000 lbs.
Would I recommend it? Hell no! Why? Well, you need to understand how fast it can stop (and how your trailer WON'T). Do you feel lucky?

Appreciate the input everybody. Looks like the excuse to buy the camaro to drive out there is a no go. The drawback of toughing out the drive in the Jeep is that once I get there and if I get the Camaro I now have two vehicles and barely enough time to drive one of them. But that doesn't seem like a bad problem to have when I don't owe a penny on the Jeep. |

Hey man have the GOVT pay for it, is it a PCS or TDY. I know a lot of soldiers like to do the DITY because they figure they can make money. Have the govt move your stuff, I beleive they will even ship one car for free. And you can still claim mileage and whatever weight you have in your car. With that said the engine on the camaro can probably tow a crap load but the frame cant. probably like most cars 1000lbs.

Dude, I have been in military for 17yrs and moved all over the place! The Government moved me without cost! Packed up my house and everything! I have even drove 1 veh and they car transported the others. They should offer you a PCS class with in 90 days of your PCS. Ask your supervisors.

The Camaro can handle a light trailer. But the amount of gas you will be burning across country and the mileage you will be putting, plus the state switch at DMV will cost as much as making the opinion above from Stephens. Even though the Camaro has a big engine, its not meant to haul since the gears and all are not meant for towing, so you will be working that engine up and it's parts to the limit. Make the smart move and hold on till you get to FL to buy your Camaro. Get the rental truck. BTW, the majority of the posts here are not for the idea of hauling with the Camaro. Just saying...

You can ship the Camaro for $500-$1000. You can rent a U-haul truck and make more than the shipping costs. Covered carrier will run about $1,500. I won't say don't use it to tow but....your picture will wind up on this site.
