Meh. As someone who isn't a fan of the current gen Mustang, I didn't figure I'd much care for the new one, and I was right.

To me it looks like Ford decided to take their Hyundai rear from the 2011 model and run with it over the whole car. That's just me.

I think this car will sell, but it won't sell because of the same reasons....the Mustang lost some of that brute American character that it had. It lost much of the originality that it once had due to it getting the "corporate grille". The Fusion is a good looking car, but by God why did Ford feel like the iconic Mustang needed to look like every other vehicle in the lineup. The uniqueness of the Mustang and Camaro are part of the appeal. In short, I feel like this car lost some of the "soul" of what makes an American muscle car. If Chevrolet gives the next gen Camaro a corporate look to make it a bit Impala and Malibu like I will be pissed.

Wrong...that is a Photoshop....pure and simple. Sure...it looks close, but there are characteristics of that rendering that are just plain wrong(headlights for one). The GT will be getting the bars in the grille, and vents on the hood like that rendering have (maybe different location), along with other things but that is not the exact car is what I'm trying to say.
Dah.......it is photoshopped. It says Car and Driver on the hood. But it is very close to the look of the next gen mustang.

"The overexposed photos of a printed magazine page suggest that Ford liked the Camaro's rear quarter panel a bit too much. Not sure yet whether that's a good thing or not, but we'll know by tomorrow." Jalopnik

I think it looks pretty good besides those small ass wheels.
Edit: Never mind I just saw the pics of the rear end

Well one thing that hasn't changed with the introduction of the new Mustang, and that is that the Challenger is still the best looking muscle car

I see a lot of things I could make ridiculous claims about being copies of or rip offs of...

Instead I'll say I see a 350/370/Audi Quattro look from certain angles.
A new Charger look from the rear, and exaggerated 1969 Mustang hips.
But ultimately it's just an evolution of the current design.

Based on the images I'm going to have to see one in person before I can say that I like it. We'll see.

Weight loss of 200ish pounds, IRS, and a horsepower bump...doesn't sound like a bad gig to me on that front.

And just to stir the pot...if Ford was able to keep their stick axle cars close on a road course with the Boss models and the dinosaur of a 13GT500, things could be very interesting once they dial in their independant rear cor the new models (which could come out performing great from the start as well).

If ford was able to knock off 200lbs like this says then Chevy better lose 3-400 or it will get embarrassed even more then it does now. But something tells me that Chevy will only be able to build a car the weighs as much as the outgoing mustang and not the new one.

Here are the 2014 Mustang weights:

V6 Manual - 3501
V6 Automatic - 3523
GT Manual - 3618
GT Automatic - 3675

So assuming GT to GT they lost 200 lbs thats 3418 for the manual GT and puts it in Corvette territory. That would be pretty sweet for Mustang performance and a nightmare for the current Camaro and Challenger.

But did the GT really lose that much weight? Or is Ford comparing the new ecoboost Stang to say...last years V6 model or something like that? We'll see soon enough.

But I agree if the GT is in the 3,400ish lb range, I don't know if GM can reach that on their V8 model even on the Alpha chasis. The current ATS with V6 weighs in the 3,400lb range. Add a V8 and beefier driveline to that and your well into the 3,500 and maybe 3,600 range. If this is the case GM will need to put the LT1 with Corvette-like power in it to be even in a straight line with the Mustang. Thats assuming the 5.0 will have 430 HP like some are saying.

It may be ugly, but it isn't a joke on the performance end. 200lb weight loss will embarrass the 5th gen, and I'm not sure if GM is going to be able to get the Alpha platform that light. Good news though is that it apparently won't be available until next year.
