LED strip footwell lights

I'm trying to hook up LED strip footwell lights in my Camaro. I was told that they make an adapter to hook them up to two different power sources. But, I can't seem to find it or know what its called. I want them to turn on when I open up the door. So, I'm going to hook them unto my dome light. Plus, I want the ability to turn them on via remote. Does anyone know where I can pick up a dual power source adapter?

Thanks,
Robert

The adapter is your toggle switch.

The normal switch is simply off - on, what you need is on - off - on

I'm no electrician so I get confused between the terminology and whether this is a Double Pole Single Throw, or Double Pole Double Throw, etc etc.

Just the same, if you go to a radio shack, carquest, advance auto, autozone, etc... they should be able to point you to a "on - off - on" switch.

This is how I did my footwell lights.

One side is the hot wire connected to the dome light circuit, the center is the ground, and the other side is the hot wire connected to whatever your constant hot is (such as accessory circuit, console gauges, "cigarette lighter port", etc).

When the switch is in the center position, neither hot source is connected, when you flick the switch side to side it selects which hot source can power your lights.

Thanks, I didn't think about that. I will give that a try.
