Shouldnt have sent a deposit. You agreed to a deal and then "back out", whether intentional or due to weather. You might have cost him a solid deal.

Personally, if it was me, Id refund your money but I would not be happy with you. I can see how the guy wants to keep the money though.

X2, I understand his side of the story, and I probably WOULD refund the money, but really if you deposit and pull-out, it's non-refundable in most cases.

If it was Paypal you can try a dispute charge, but you might be SOL.

If he was a nice guy he would refund your money but he's a dick so you lose. Lesson learned. Everyone isn't cool or a nice guy.

Yeah if he didn't mention anything of a 'non-refundable deposit required' then he should give it back. Plus you did it to secure the wheels essentially so he knew you were serious. He should give it back

If you open yourself up for opinions by asking for them, don't be offended or upset by them if they don't agree with yours.

I, like some of the others, would have just refunded your money and parted ways. That's me...

I would refund the money whether you backed out or not, I am not greedy like that. However, I can see you may have cost him a solid deal then flaked out whether it is/was your fault or not.

I would say a hard lesson learned and let it be lucky you sent $100 rather than $1000. In my knowledge and experience you are SOL you basically "gifted" the money to the guy. No one stole anything, you sent it in your own will. No one coerced you, you sent it on your own will. No one forced you, you sent it on your own will. No contracts and/or written formal agreements/stipulations... basically your SOL.

The only thing you can do is put him on blast to be sure and deter others from dealing with him on here. Sorry man.

If he didn't ask for a deposit, I would not have given him one. Like others said, I would have given the refund but I would not be a happy camper. It is not his fault the event was cancelled.

You put a deposit down, then backed out of the deal.

You lose the deposit.

Finish the deal or lose the cash. That's what a deposit is for.

You should definitely get your deposit back, if not he's a loser.

I actually have refunded money AND lost a local buyer who had cash in hand to buy. It sucked for me, but my name is important to me. I don't think a single person here would disagree that I had every right to keep the initial deposit (which I asked for)

You gave the buyer your word, you refuse to pay shipping, drive down and pick them up. It's not his problem you had a change of plans. Honestly, unless you're 5 years old, it's hard to feel sorry for you
