You can assume about $0.25 change in the price of gas per $10 change in a barrel of oil, I think the real number is slightly below that.

Then of course other factors such as crack spreads and different taxing regimens

But I dont buy 15 cups of coffee at once....
Id rather spend $2.80 at the pump and fill up my tank for around $40 bucks rather than $75 at $5.00 a gallon....

Went up 10 cents the other day here in CA. They said it's going up another 10 cents this weekend. Just paid $3.89 for premium! I can easily see $5 by summer!

---NEWS FLASH---

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. said Thursday that earnings in the last quarter rose 38% from a year earlier as oil prices rebounded. But profits fell short of Wall Street's expectations due partly to higher health care costs.

The world's largest publicly traded energy company said it earned $6.3 billion, or $1.33 per share, in the last three months of 2010. That's up from $3.5 billion, or 92 cents per share, in the same period last year.

We might see $4, but not $5. People predicting Armageddon have never made good predictions.

Calm down guys. There is no shortage of supply what-so-ever. The price is being driven up by speculators with an almost infinite supply of easy Fed money at 0% interest behind them, allowing them to buy on margin at 6% down. Like all Fed bubbles, this one will burst too. We've seen this story before. Eventually, the easy money loans will come due, and when they do, all these speculators will have to liquidate those investments, and the price will come crashing down faster than it went up, just like in 2008. These markets are behaving exactly like 2008, and the result will be exactly the same. We just have to make it through the next couple of months.

OH noessss gas went up 20 cents, time to sell the Camaro and buy a Prius

Yes it does suck that gas prices are going up, but they'll always fluctuate and cluttering the forum with gas threads won't make a difference.

$4 a gallon will definitely be reached, I don't think for regular, but defintely Premium.

As far as I'm aware of, there is no contango, so it's not the fault of the speculators (nor was it in 2008). Plus, to say supply will not be effected by these revolutions is frankly wrong. I'm really wondering the reasoning behind that curious conclusion. However, you're not too far off about the Fed and the inevitable liquidation.

Oh dear god, do I need to start posting facts and figures again? Can we please stop the panic? Sometimes I wish I could just up and move to Canada, nobody freaks like this....

Mostly because we're so numb from being beaten to death with taxes. Do yourself a favor and not even cross the 49th. If you do I'll trade you places anyday.

Don't be surprised if we see $6.00 for regular gas at the peak this summer. I see you're from Pittsburg. Antioch is my hometown....I know how the Bay Area always gets screwed on gas prices.

Its the attitude that Candian's had that I miss. I'm originally from Detroit and I grew up around nothing but people complaining about work, crime, gas prices, taxes and health care. We are the CNN generation in America are adicted to everything CNN and Fox News, thus we panic regarding every little tiny thing. Gas prices are gas prices, we could be paying $8 like in Europe. I'm tired of the panic, does anyone remember when SARS and Y2K we're going to whipe us out? They never did and the majority of us aren't going to fall into absolute poverty because gas prices went up $1 or $2 dollars a gallon. If your living that tight you got a lot bigger problems.
