MRT Exhaust Drone + X-Pipe = ?

I'm getting some drone at highway speeds with my MRT. It's not bad but at times I find it a bit annoying.

I know that it needs more time to break in. I also know that drone won't go away after the break-in period.

I'm wondering if an X-Pipe would eliminate some of that drone? If it makes the exhaust a little quieter, so be it, but I'd like to eliminate the highway speed drone and I don't want to do that curvy Helmoltz pipe thing I've seen here.

What will an X-Pipe do for me, how hard are they to install, and which should I order? I've heard a "resonated" x-pipe is the way to go, can someone tell me the visual and mechanical difference between a resonated pipe and a regular one, and maybe link me to a few that are for sale? Fill me in fellas, I'm new to the exhaust game.

Give it a couple of weeks to a month. The actual drone will not lessen but you'll become used to it and it will become almost non existent unless you listen for it. I've had my MRT 2.0 for about 5 months and would swear I have no drone, although I know there is some.

29 inch pipes should kill that annoying 120HZ MRT2.0 drone zone.

If you don't want to do the "curvy" pipes, and you find that you aren't will to just get used to it, then the next bet is going with a magnaflow resonated X pipe.

Everyone says it helps to cut drone, but you will also tame down your exhaust note as well...so it is a bit of a compromise.

I really don't have the equipment to do that... I've got a gravel driveway, no lift, no welder, etc... it seems time-consuming, as well?

I don't mind toning it down a little, as it'll still be much louder than stock. Can one of you link me to where I can purchase it? Do I have to have the whole kit that's like $300, or just the x-pipe? How difficult is the install?

Saint Alban had a muffler shop make his. All you need is to buy three J pipes on Ebay and take them to a muffler shop. I think he paid less then a x-pipe would cost.

It depends on how much the drone is bothering you....

1) J-Pipes = If the drone is really buggin you than no better option. You will have to fab up the mufflers that you bought though. The install can be a little involved, and my personal belief is that it add some of the weight back in that you lost by getting rid of the stock suit cases.

2) Resonated X-pipe = Magnaflow has a great x-pipe, few people have installed it and I think you can find their threads in the exhaust stickey. If you can stand a little bit of drone, then this is the way to do it, you will have to fab up your stock mid-pipes. You will have to remove the stock h-pipe and place the resonated x-pipe and weld it up. For me this is the least challenging install.

Yup, the drone was bothering me way too much and i couldn't get use to it. I don't remember how much an x pipe goes for but the muffler shop charged me $200. Some may charge you less. It gets rid of the drone but you keep your exhaust tone during acceleration and startup. It was such a relief when I drove out of there.

By the way, it was the first time my muffler guy ever did something like that before but he said he has experience in making custom exhausts. So just make sure you find an experienced guy if you do end up doing this. No pressure though, it's up to you. I just can just positively tell you this works.

to be honest i really dont notice any drone on mine and i have LT with mine and mines also the v1.0 just put some more miles on it and i think itll lessen

It's all subjective. But you don't notice the BRRRRRRR while cruising on the highway?

to be honest no not really i have a rumble but thats about it, but when i go up a hill thats when i get that annoying brrrr where the whole car shakes and bad drone

I agree with what others have said. On my 2ltrs A6 I had shorty headers,Ingen and mrtv2 and that combo is louder and drones a bit. Get miles on it first though. I put on a 1000 before it tamed down and the interior drone moved from the back seat to out to the back of the car and outside. Now I did have the resonated x pipe already and the stock ones, but to compare when the mrt's were put on I had the stock resonatord taken off, figured I didn't need them. WRONG! THAT THING WAS LOUDER THEN HECK INSIDE! Put them back on till the mufflers broke in, then they were not needed, Xpipe took care of most of the drone/boom on its own.

Side note I just put the flowmaster Outlaws on the SS, barks like a cannon on start up and a bit boomy inside at 1500-2300 rpm when accelerating, but same principle, need to let them break in more and ecu adjust to the setup. If not will use the res x pipe or some flowmaster resonators to tame any drone

could try downshifting on the hills... bump the RPMs up and get above the annoying zone...
