I drive around skip shift for some time. I lived with it in my old Mustang for a little, too, and than unplugged it (no CEL in that setup). However, the way I drive, sometimes I like to short-shift a turn so I don’t have to worry about shifting after a turn/need to within a turn - both safety and autox habit. So, I elected to get the DIY eliminator.

I adjusted my driving style to take advantage of the 19 mph cutoff. Frankly, that is not a hard adjustment to make.
For the times skip shift does kick in (traffic, mainly), I have also trained myself to go to 3rd instead of 4th. Also not a hard adjustment to make.
Every manual has its quirks.

My take on it mirrors yours 100 percent.

Plus, I had a 4th gen as well, but was able to defeat the "feature" when I had my PCM reprogrammed.

Just how hard should I smash into the back of that Prius in front of me going 17 mph?

For $23 it's a no brainer. I don't have to adjust my shifting style or get caught off guard by a gimmick that helps GM avoid a gas guzzler tax.

Definitely worth the trouble to install it. It drove me crazy in traffic, especially when you just shift into fourth, then have to slow back down a bit and immediately have to downshift. You can also wait 3 or 4 seconds and it will let you go to second, but I also found that pretty annoying.

Maybe I'm just not aware but I never had any issues with this. Maybe cause my car doesn't have it... But in traffic or hard acceleration, never had an issue going in 4th instead of 2nd.

I bought a Muzzy's unit off Amazon and it throws the CEL after two skipped shift dash illuminations. I've connected and reconnected it twice with no fix. Gonna have to try another brand I suppose. Never had this kind of issue with my past cars (00SS, 02TA, 05GTO).

Very strange.... I purchased the Mussy's on Amazon as well and have not had any problems, like CEL, at all. Works perfectly. Perhaps you got a defective unit?

I have one from Gen5DIY. It was a bitch to install (almost impossible). It's necessary in my opinion.

I got one for $20 from Summit Racing when I bought my Green Filter. I think it is an SLP, don't remember. I only know it was a little more than 20, but I had a discount code.

Anyway, the forced shift thing used to ONLY bite me when taking my Son to school. I refuse to speed in a school zone. So, I bought the eliminator. No CEL. Works great.
