Question OEM Black SS wheels care?

Hi Guys,

Recently my front black wheels were repainted by a third party recommended by GM, for some reason the paint was flaking.
On my prior Camaro ZL1 5th gen and on my Stingray Z51 which also had stock black wheels I used dawn dish wash liquid soap and on the Corvette I also used armor all Outlast brake dust repellent because those Z51 Brembos dusted.

When I asked my local dealer what to use to clean them, they advised me to don't use a dish wash liquid cleaner.

I want my wheels to last longer. What do you use to wash them, that gave you good results? I never had any issue while using the Dawn liquid cleaner to wash my car. I'm open to suggestions.

Dawn dish soap wont really hurt anything per se, but on cars it takes the wax off.

I would take them off, clean them, get a few clay bars and clay them, then you can ceramic coat them or just put some spray sealant on them (Optima paint protect is what I use) and wipe on and wipe off.

Do this with the car's paint as well.

I have the optional semi-gloss black OEM wheels on my SS. I used just regular car wash soap at first. Then, based on a post by Glen E, I washed them with Dawn and then applied Hydro2O as a protectant. It has held up very well.

Get some ceramic pads as well. No brake dust. Easier to clean and they stay so much cleaner!

Glen, any thoughts about the differences between Gyeon Wetcoat and Hydro2o?

Glad to hear it. I appreciate your perspective. Since asking, I went youtubing and found some comparison videos. None of the ones I saw could tell any difference. One guy pointed out that the Gyeon Wetcoat was almost twice the price of the Hydro2o, so that made it less interesting. Anyway, I have been finding Hydro2o so durable that I still have a lot of it, so will continue to use it until I run out, at least. I've only been using it on my black wheels so far.
