Camaro #4 in the garage

My first "real" car was a 1974 Camaro Z28 4-speed. I bought it in 1975 with 7200 miles on it. Price was $4295 at a Chevy dealer. Dream car for a 19 year old, believe me. Five years and a couple cars later I ordered a new 1980 Z28 4-speed, and then traded that for a new 1984 Z28 5-speed with the L69 H.O. engine option. Total price with options on the '84 was $13,421. Sold that Camaro in 1992 with slightly over 100K miles on it.

1992 to 2015 were the dark years, when I owned a string of Mustang GTs. Just kidding, I actually preferred the ergonomics of the Mustang, and the '87 Mustang would whip the '84 Camaro. A '95 Mustang GT was just okay, but the yellow '05 Mustang GT I ordered new was fantastic, and I loved that car until the day I sold it 10 years later. I learned how to drive on a race track with that car, plus it was a daily driver, and it never had a single issue.

I had a brief experiment with a BMW M235i, which was a really nice car, but just not my style.

So 26 years after selling the '84 Z28, I am back in the saddle with a 2018 2SS 1LE!

If you haven't done the math, for full disclosure I am technically a senior citizen at 62. But I'm not dead yet.

For me, it will be a weekend car. I've been doing HPDE track days once per year since 2007 and will continue with the Camaro. Really looking forward to it on the track. But mostly I will just be enjoying it on the public roads, safely of course.

For about the past two years, I knew I wanted either a Mustang or Camaro, but I kept going back and forth not able to make up my mind. When the 1LE become available on the 2SS, I knew that was the car - until Ford announced the PP2 package for the Mustang - then I was uncertain again.

Then I happened to see a Summit White 2SS online at a dealership less than an hour from me, and it was optioned just about how I would have ordered it myself. I went to look at it and traded in my BMW a week later.

In case anyone is wondering, I didn't test drive the 1LE as it was in the showroom with 3 miles on it. But I did test drive 2 Camaro 2SS cars in the past year, and fell in love with them.

I don't have much of a review at this time since my car only has 106 miles on it. I drove it home last Saturday about 60 miles with my wife in the car, so I was on my best behavior for one thing, plus all I was thinking about was getting it home in one piece, which I did. And then it sat in the garage for almost a week (weather has been brutal) until I took it out tonight for the first time since getting home. Within 5 minutes I had this grin on my face that I couldn't wipe off. And I'm just driving it around in Tour mode, following the break-in procedure. It's just amazing. It has a HUD! And Recaros! And it's bad ass beyond belief.

It came with these options:

Navigation
Illuminated Black bowtie emblems
Aluminum sport pedals

And I went to ShopChevyParts.com and ordered:

Adrenaline Red knee pads
Black fuel cap

I also bought a Phastek skip shift eliminator and will probably install that this weekend.

Here it is (and sorry about the front plate - I know most people wouldn't put them on, but they're required in CT and I'd just as soon avoid hassles):

Congrats and you will certainly enjoy it. I also just got mine (2017 Pre-owned 1SS 1LE GBH-Black) 3 weeks ago and beginning to get used to her.
Having as a DD car: VW Golf style (7th Gen. MQB platform) = Seat Leon 1.8 (Turbo/ FR) the 1LE is a completely different animal in terms of size, but interestingly enough, when driving, she does not feel as large as when looking at her from the outside.
Visibility is a little awkward (especially looking through the rear window - everything seems so far away LoL). Also, the internal cabin quality (apart from the seats and dash framing) is not the best - especially the plastics (for example, pressing the door handle piece can produce these "plasticy squeaks" and so do the plastic parts on the steering wheel + the headliner doe not tuck in properly at the upper windshield (must find a solution to this, since in a couple of months time, it is expected to get worse and may further peel off the ceiling)
But hey, for the price you pay, it is overall (as was repeated so many times..), incredible -on the verge of imaginary value for the $$.

Awesome car you will love its capabilities once you are able to let it loose. On a side note my Dad is going to be 71 this year and He bought a 2013 zl1 in 2012. 580 hp wasn't enough so 2 years ago I did some work to it and it now puts down just over 600 hp at the rear wheels (100hp more than stock) and he loves it. I think it keeps him young and it gives him something to look forward to. He enjoys driving up to my house and going out for a cruise together. I love either looking in the mirror or out my windshield and seeing my dad enjoying himself. Its times like those that i will cherish most someday.

Congrats! I also spot a Pepper White R50 MINI in the background. Fun cars.

As for the 1LE, when you get it on track, you're going to absolutely love it. It's astounding how good it feels out there in Track mode.

Glad to see you finally make the leap. It's funny you had a 2 series and I use to want that a couple years back.

Great story and welcome back! I also didn’t drive my 1LE either but drove a SS and couldn’t believe how good it compared to my old 2015 1LE. I just had the dealer get in the color I wanted.
