2014 Camaro LS99 Cooling Issue

So I have a few bolt ons. But the car is overheating on street driving. On the freeway it is fine. I put a 160 thermostat in it. The fans do not seem to engage under any temperature of normal idle. But they both kick on with the AC. I know they are supposed to run hot, but I believe the temperature actuator may not be engaging? But then why does the HUD seem to sense the temperature correctly?

What temp are you calling overheating? Or are you getting reduced power mode or a/c cut off message?

There isn't a direct temp actuated relay, its controlled by the ECU.

210. A couple of Stabilitrack shut downs. But most of the time I see it creeping towards 190 I just turn on my AC. Freeway driving is fine. It's the city driving that creates issues. I ran it for a good 10 to 15 yesterday at idle and the fans never kicked on. From what you are saying though it sounds like a custom tune with help with that?

Our stuff is rated to be used with 5w30 engine oil. 5w30 engine oils optimal operating temps are between 190-260. I think the norm after the car has been running for a while is around 220-230. I removed my oem oil cooler and still get around 220's driving around a turbo car. Fan's dont kick on to assist an overheat till like low 300's.

I do believe the OP is talking about COOLANT temp. I believe you're talking OIL temp.

well if you are specifically looking for coolant numbers they usually run 10-15 degree's less than the oil. 210 looks like normal operating conditions to me.

what is your coolant mixture?
Water to coolant 70:30 ratio mix with a little water wetter might help lower it a touch.

Yeah, 210 is not that high and fans don't come on until higher than that stock. They can be reprogrammed to cut on sooner. You shouldn't have any traction control/reduced power modes shutdowns until way over that so that may be a different issue.

Agreed, 210 isn't high...

I have heard about the 210 not being too high too. But I have intake, throttle body, cold air, headers, resonator delete and slp exhaust. Pretty sure it's getting wonky during the higher tenps from everything else making it breathe.

My guess is something is off in the tune that makes it act up during the warmer temps, but not directly tied to the actual coolant temp.

Tune your car. Putting a new thermostat in doesn't really do much but open the thermostat at 160. The coolant is still allowed to get to temperature before the cooling fans turn on, you would need to tune the car to change the temps where the cooling fans turn on.

If you think the car is acting "wonky" during the warmer temps, what kind of intake do you have? If the intake temps are too high, the car can pull timing because there is less density to the air.

Fast XL. I think it's the 106? Sounds like I need a tune. I have one of those boxed tunes. But I'm guessing it needa to be custom.
