wondering if we are looking at the same car. the one in your link says it has almost 57k miles. still not a lot, for an 11 year old car...

I think he is figuring if you go down the track 1/4th mile you have to come back a 1/4th mile.

V6 camaro to a v8 corvette, I would take that anyday. If speed is what you're after go for it. And 1,00000,000000.0000000 lbs less, you might regret the getting rid of the newer car but I think you'll enjoy the differences.

I'm in between jobs right now and I can't keep paying on the camaro too much longer hence the reason I'm seeking a trade.

5th gen SS (non-1LE, and most likely even the 1LE) would get its hinnie handed to it by that Vette.

So why would you consider trading for a car that you'd still have the same payment on? Think about taxes, title, license, dealer fees, higher loan rate due to older car....

Unless you're going to try to re-finance your loan and extend it, there's not point in trading between these two cars.

Those C5's also didn thave very desirable interior. It is a bad ass car, but you are dropping 11 model years.

Are you looking for a raw performance car?
You would be surprised what a corvette gets in gas mileage. That's not really a concern in my book.

Less sound deadening than base C5's. You will hear a rattle, it's normal.
The transmission is in the rear, you will want a short throw shifter.
Your leg will get hot. I wrote a tutorial how to cool it down with a towel.
The 03 has the good shocks. It is a hair faster than the 02.
To get in and out of the car, look for a square bulge in the door jamb. Put your hand on it. Undocumented feature.
It came with a videotape how to set up the car for roadracing. This can be found on YouTube.
You can adjust the suspension with simple hand tools in 15 minutes. This includes lowering the car, which will improve mileage.

It Will Get 29-30 mpg highway at 70mph with the headlights down in 6th gear. No problem.

The DIC will read trouble codes.
There is a Heads Up Display that is programmable.
The mufflers are titanium and very good. DO NOT bother with aftermarket.
It pulls hard into the limiter (6600), bumping the limiter to 7000 and shifting at 6800-6900 will net high 11 second ET's with a good driver.
Not a lot of helmet clearance for tall people.
Do not drive over debris like grass clippings. The radiator intake is right at ground level, and you will block the radiator and overheat.

Even by today's standards, the C5 Z06 is a very competitive car in the twisties. What it lacks in HP, it makes up for with a 3100lb curb weight.

Put one extra quart of oil in it for RR or AutoX. This is why the next Z06 came dry sump. On "ok" tires, it will sustain over 1.01g, with good tires, over 1.1g.

It's good to know critical thinking isn't dead.

Or maybe critical thinking IS dead.

Not to knock your plan, OP, but this might knock your plan. Why would you trade a car of approximately the same value for one that is much older, no warranty, and more expensive to operate (and probably more expensive to insure) than your current vehicle?

That makes absolutely no sense. I mean, on an enjoyment and performance level, sure, but financing an 11 year old car isn't a great idea to start with. If you have excellent credit, you should be able to get financing. Maybe not at 100% LTV, and you won't qualify for "new car" financing rates. So you may have to put cash down, and you'll probably be paying more in interest over the life of the loan, and the allowable terms are usually shorter on older vehicles.

You're in between jobs right now? Ok, there are brand new cars that are cheaper than this 11 year old Vette...and they'll have a warranty. Hell, my new Cruze RS (daily driver) was $20k out the door. Come on man, this isn't a smart trade.
