Took my car to get my rims on at Just Tires and WOW

Just Tires said they couldnt use my TPMS Sensors so they had to order all new sensors. they were already charging me $50 a wheel, total would have been $360 just to get my new rims on. I called my Chevy dealer and they said theyll charge me $100 and would be able to use my orginal sensors if not damaged for all 4 rims installed

Is this just to mount the wheels on the car, or mount and balance tires as well? Would definitely not pay $360 to get new rims put on.

hmmm.. i guess I'll make sure I shop around too then. I've got wheels and tpms ready to go, once I get lug nuts and tires. (waiting till I wear down the pirellis on my polished stock rims) to put new tires on powder coated rims. I expected any shop would be able use the existing tpms.

What was their reasoning?

My two local tire stores will do seasonal swaps for free as long as you own the tires that
they sell you. thats with or without the tires on extra wheels. My chrome wheel/summer
tire swap at my Chevy dealer is only $20.00 + tax.

Shop around... a couple of weeks ago, I needed to have four tires dismounted off of rims... that's all. I usually go to a shop that will dismount, remount, and balance four tires for a total of $40. But, I figured I'd call around, see what a CLOSER shop might charge for JUST dismounting four tires that were in the back of my truck... nobody even needed to turn a lug wrench. Every place I called wanted $40, just for that! So, I went to my "regular" shop, where they charged me $10.

Point being: Different shops, vastly different prices.

(Then there's the time that my wife had a nail in her tire... I instructed her to take it to a shop, where they INSISTED that she needed to change all four tires... because it's impossible to just change ONE tire (even though the tires were pretty new), and that a nail in a tire is impossible to "fix." Just can't be done. So I took it to another shop, because, unfortunately, many many many places are sexist, and having the right genes carries certain privileges. That shop fixed the nail- puncture for $10. Saved me $990. (now, I fix nail- punctures myself, costs about $.25 ea....)

At the shop I work at (Sears automotive), we will reuse the sensors but will recommend new gaskets or in our case, new valves that attach to the sensor. Which, you would have to do in the case of using the original sensors on the new rims and tires.

I purchased my wheels at Tire Rack.com and had Sears automotive in Moorestown NJ Remove tires from original wheels (had less then 100 miles on them)and install them on the new ones from Tire Rack.com along with my original sensors ,cost $25 + tax Sears tech told me they have special pricing for those that purchase from Tire Rack.com

I purchased 4 new wheels from discount tire and when my new rims I ordered online came in I went in and they took off my old wheels and put the old TPMS's on my new rims with the new tires at no extra charge.

I live on the North side and drive up there, doesn't take long and they are careful. They also paint the wheel weights black which I like.
