Its not easy to drop weight out of a finalized design....

In other words, what is the point of building the "traditional" Z/28 when even a car (GT500) that isn't necessarily made for a road course could pull out a win?
Got it.

Obviously. But you said the GT500 couldn't lose any weight, you didn't say when lol. Most people assumed you were talking about development and pre-production, not after they've already built the car. IMO that's kind of a silly comment.

The whole thing got jumbled up and I think we were all talking about something different...

Speaking of something different... How did the GT-R get so close to the ZR1's lap time? The thing had a 150+hp disadvantage... and it's not like the handling differences where THAT MUCH GREATER. (Honestly IDK which handles better though).

Mainly lower gearing and AWD. The AWD system in that car improves its handling abilities compared to most RWD cars. Its not just about the skidpad. These are the 'known' explanations, however there is a good deal of speculative stuff that could have also played a role. The GTR's engine is probably underated, it may have had better track conditions, the tires may not have been stock, different manufactures count laps differently (location of starting vs finish line, standing vs rolling start, etc) and I'm sure I missed a few. Regardless, the Viper ACR beat both of them.

Anyhoo ...

how about not worrying about old 70's trans-am specs and look at koni challenge specs or rolex grand am specs or hell maybe even American Le Mans specs? Plus I still think Paul Gentilozzi is trying to resurrect the Trans-am series as a opening act if you would to the American Le Mans series isnt he? GM should build a car we can buy and take it to an event and run it.

I know he started the Jaguar GT2 team late this year, I don't know if he gave up on Trans-am or if this is part of a bigger commitment. They should develop it like the Koni Challenge series opens for the Grand Am.
