Chrysler 200... thoughts, experiences?
so i went out car shopping today with a friend & he's really interested in the Chrysler 200. he also had his eye on a Charger, Chevy Sonic, Cruze, & Malibu.
he's a single guy from inner-city NY stationed here with me who's wanting a nice sedan (preferably, but 2 doors are ok with a decent back seat) with some nice bells & whistles but not quite a luxury car. he's also wanting to do a lease for now until he's out of the military. the first place we stopped was the Dodge dealer & we looked at the 200 sedans, but we ended up test driving a hard-top convertible 200S - 2 doors & V6. he really likes it a lot better but ain't sure if he wants that much higher of a payment. overall, it's really nice - much nicer than i was expecting (me not being much of a Dodge fan). the whole nav/sound/telephone doohickey is pretty awesome, the seats feel great, and the interior overall seemed pretty well designed & put together. the car drove really smooth (as expected based on my past Chrysler 300 experience) & he really loved it. we didn't really look at the Charger today; he's already looked at one a while back & had a good feel for it but is still leaning towards the 200 - unless it's the Mopar edition Hemi Charger... then again, that's more than he's ready to pay. after that, we looked on the Chevy lot because he hadn't heard of the Cruze and didn't know what the new Malibus were like. we got to looking around & he actually is kinda interested in the Sonic over the Cruze and the Malibu over both (or maybe it's even with the Sonic). based on playing around with the insides of a couple, though, the 200 is definitely the front runner. i hate to say it, but personally (even as big of a bowtie man as i am), if i was looking for the same kind of stuff in a car as he is, i would choose the chrysler too. now for a closer comparison, i also recommended looking at a Buick, but i think he's good on the 200. that said, have any of y'all had any personal experience with the Chrysler 200, and what kind of feedback can you give? thanks

For what they had to work with, they did an amazing job on it, though I have yet to drive in one. I was pulling up to a convertible for the first time and remember thinking it has a nice rearend.

The 200 is a great car for it's class. And it doesn't equal a sebring in any way. It's a much better car than that was.

I know what your saying ,and I think most realize that it is build on the same platform. But what I meant was that it is vastly improved over the Sebring version. Short of starting with a new platform it was completely redesigned from the old car. The Sebrings were pretty much junk.
See I know how to bold words too. |

The old Sebring exterior just kills the car IMO. Big improvements hurt by a terrible design.
By the way, the 2013 Malibu ECO arrives in about a month...

Get a Sonic, very cool car with excellent reviews.
Only rental car companies are buying the Chrysler 200. |

thanks for the opinions, and the way i see it is the 200 is an upgraded replacement for what used to be called the sebring... kinda like when ford came out with the 500

Not really, Ford killed the Taurus and released the Five Hundred because they felt all their cars needed to start with "F." The Five Hundred was fairly mediocre and Ford felt that changing the name from Taurus was the reason it wasn't received very well, so it was renamed "Taurus."
