You need a street tire not a R compound.

Will the street tire make that much of a difference? I was thinking the R because I've read all the good posts about traction with them. If I use the non R is it going to be a big difference in rolling start traction? 30-40mph...hit the gas traction. ??
Thanks for all the input. |

I recently switched to the NT-05R for the rear and love them. Thought I haven't taken it to the track yet; they seem to work best with PTM 5. They handle the turns pretty good; but not like the OEM GY's.

What about this? Not sure about turns. Only 305 though.

Actually if you keep the air pressure in the high 20s on the nt05r once you get them hot even in turns they will be stickier than the nt05. But, the sidewall is more compliant for drag racing.

I still say stay away from the R tires, need to spin them up to get grippy... NT05 all the way

As I was commuting in this morning, I thought about your post. I have some 18" NT05R's on the back of my car, down to about 2/32 probably a little too worn for some people.
I pushed 'em in the long sweeping ramp I hit when I exit 90/94... Ohio Offramp for those Chicago peeps. Gripped decent. Now I took care to never shock the tires and break traction and I could have pushed it harder but I was worried that I'd spin out or something and that's never a good idea. I've commuted on 555R's and they hook better than Pirellis, but for me with everything in the sig + converter (high 11's on paper right), I can light them up pretty easily. from a dig, though I have not pushed this curve with them... I'll try the next time I put them back on the car.

I went from the stock tires to NT05 non R version. They hold my power just fine.
I've only driven the car once in the rain with them and that was "unpleasant". I didn't feel like I could go over 40 without floating. I'm told that gets better after a few hundred miles. If it doesn't, I will replace them with something else when the time comes.
